Fujifilm to discontiue FP-100B and 400B instant films (in Japanese market)

Fujifilm UK doesn't sell it, so it's not the Fujifilm UK guy's problem. Same goes for Fuji USA. You'll have to try to get an answer from Japan on that one, I guess.

Seems to me if anybody knows the facts it would be the Senior Product Manager for Professional Film Russ Gunn as stated in Namke's post. I have little faith in comments from a low level employee in Japan who may be simply spreading corporate rumor or simply are not being accurate in the facts. When management makes announcements, that's when you listen. I highly doubt these B/W films are going anywhere, they have a lock on the market.

Okay, let's not make this contentious! It seems that there is conflicting information making the rounds... let's just continue to press Fuji, express our interest in these products... and continue to use them and be happy while we still have them.

Fujifilm Professional has moved quickly to dispel rumours that the company is about to withdraw production of its popular black and white instant film.

Fujifilm’s Senior Product Manager for Professional Film, Russ Gunn, explained the announcement: “It was brought to our attention that a number of websites were carrying ‘news’ of the discontinuation of some of Fujifilm’s instant film. I would like to confirm that all current formats of FP-100B and FP-3000B black and white instant film and FP-100C colour instant film will remain in production and we have no plans to discontinue any of them.”

Gunn continued: “We remain fully committed to the continued support of photographers who appreciate the quality and flexibility of real film. Fujifilm runs a variety of marketing activities based around real film, including the Fujifilm Distinctions Awards, the Fujifilm Student Awards and our online resource for film users, Choose-film.com.”

Yeah, I guess it was your post but my comment is nothing personal. Just a statement that I don't trust what lower level employees say. When management speaks I listen, as that is usually a much more reliable source than something from subordinates. When conflicting information is flying around it is obvious the credibility of information becomes very questionable.

Bullsh*t! Be more specific. Japan? Did the source say wordwide? Someone started this rumor here a couple months back and it turned out to be the twin packs of instant film only. The clarification came from fuji usa. In the mean time everyone freaked out while waiting for an official response. The information given to camera shop customers is generally inaccurate when it comes to products going away. Time and time again, these threads start with "the guy at my camera store said....."

I'm not taking it personal ... but the fact is I didn't speak to "low level employees." I spoke to two supervisors from the instant film customer service department. One more camera shop told me the same news, so that's two separate camera shops plus Fujifilm itself. That's enough for me.

As the thread title states however, this news is Japan only for the time being.

Which camera shops did you speak too? I spoke to National Photo in Harajuku and they had no information about it as of this morning. I am not saying your are wrong but my local vendor also had no knowledge of this either.

I hope Fuji doesn't drop any of it's instant film line. I tend to buy mine at Bic Camera and Yodobashi Camera, and the clerks at those stores say they have heard nothing about any films being discontinued. The film sells pretty well, and there are times when I can't get any because it has sold out.

I don't buy much of the color 4x5 film as it runs nearly $4 per print (4000 yen for a 10 exposure pack).

Top Camera and Hidakaya are not known to be reliable sources of information. Try National in Harajuku and Lemonsha in Ginza they are two of the bigger pro places in Tokyo. National always maintains an up to date list of currently films, soon to be discontinued and discontinued films on their site. I spoke with both the film managers (one of whom is a close friend of nearly 10 years) at the Yodobashi main store in Shinjuku and the Bic Camera across from the station, neither of them had any information about any thing being of the films being discontinued as of an hour ago. I am not saying you are wrong, but at least my contacts don't have any information about it.....yet. My friend did say that the instant film was selling quite well, especially since Polaroid's demise and was surprised by rumor.

To bring this thread back to life, ALL of the major stores in NYC are out of FP-100B in medium format...and most of the little stores I checked too. Two comments were that I wasn't going to find it anywhere, and another store said they had over a thousand packs of it back ordered w/ no word.

Ugly surprise this afternoon, especially after I had already picked up 40 rolls of TX for the job. Gotta eat it that now and rent a digi back. Wah wah.

I have 5 packs of FP-400B 3.25 x 4.25 enroute from Japan Exposures, ordered last week. Dirk did say it took a few days longer to get, but did eventually receive the packs direct from his source in Japan.

Periodic gaps in the production/supply I can deal w/ by just buying large quantities at a time. I'm def not trying to start any rumors or etc. My only facts are that I can't find the stuff anyplace here in the city. But good to know you found some.

WTF is wrong with Fuji?

I mean, first they go and (supposedly) discontinue ALL their color neg pro films(excluding 400h), and instant film (supposedly) doing well. But seeing that they're the only game in town who is currently making instant proofing film, I can't see why they aren't on the ball about this kind of stuff.

I'm not worried. Fuji has a full-page ad in the Spring 2010 issue of PDN EDU for their color instant films, specifically promoting emulsion transfer and emulsion lift techniques.
