Fujifilm Releases New Instax Camera

I really really really hope they are working on a version that uses Instax Wide.
 
That new one seems just another variant (though most deviant) of the Mini family.

That the design is related to classic cameras is interesting. Though personally I'd prefer the other Mini designs.
 
I like the design better than the previous ones. It looks less like a toy.
 
Though it uses it's own battery instead of the CR2 or double AA kind of batteries which in my opinion are a lot better. I hate the new battery type as it means I can't buy fresh ones from the store.

At last, it's tweaked on Fujifilm: overhaul the design. This one is a lot more appealing than the Mattel-toy of earlier.
 
It is a own kind of photography. That is why I don't see the point in disguising it as a classic 35mm camera, or at least make one think of such.

But I have a penchant anyway for camera designs off the main track.

It is not only a new design (which is awesome by the way, much better than the current one), but this new model is also significantly improved, with lots of advanced features:

I also hope that we will soon see a similar model for the 210 wide picture Instax format!

This camera has macro mode, double exposure mode, bulb mode for up to 10 second exposures, rechargeable battery, mode buttons on the back of the camera, and the ability to fine tune the flash exposure as well.

The lens is a 60mm f12 and they also state that it has a programmable electronic shutter that can shoot at up to 1/400th

Yes, I know about their increase in sales on Instax. I'm also aware about some Instax-marketing efforts over here.
Nevertheless even from within Fuji there is criticism on the latter, as coming too late after the demise of Polaroid. By that losing a great share of the instant customers for good.

These Instax cameras are all over Shanghai. It is really amazing how many stores sell them. I rarely if ever see 35mm film anymore in stores but I can easily find Instax film.

I just bought me another as new Instax 200 for 3€ at the fleamarket. Instax film is rarely known over here and hard to get aside one or two photo shops per major cities.

You are talking about Germany?
If yes then I have to disagree completely. I've seen there Instax films even in smaller photo shops in smaller towns. And all of the film online distributors offer it.
And I know no other country worldwide, which has so much specialised film online companies. More than 10.
I was very pleasantly surprised to see that. Never seen that in any other country.
Germany has one of the the best, if not the best film infrastructures worldwide, in some cases even better than Japan (o.k., Tokyo is special, and probably "the film place" in the world).
 
Yes, Germany. I checked quite some places around. One dealer in a small town (who even got APS-film) told me he would never order Instax film as he would not sell a single pack.
Online sellers can only be taken into account for availability, but not for spreading the news. People (and I am not speaking of young folk surfing all day for new things) who do not see an instant camera locally, would not start looking for it on the net.

You are right, Germany is still in a very good position concerning local film availability in general even in small places. It is getting worse here too though.

But I have never ever seen anybody with an Instax camera. Actually I only once saw anybody with a film camera at all this year.
An experience which has to be taken into account to make the picture.
 
I have three words for this camera, and they are eccoed by my wife (a first I might add): "I want one"

My kids have Mini 50s' and love them to bits. And I can understand why. They want to make scrap books and diaries (girls). And the instax system fits the bill nicely. And at social gatherings they get to give away prints. Much like I do with my Polaroids at parties. Much to the pleasure of friends and family. Even more so nowadays, when hardly anybody ever sees a print if it is not on a wall at a gallery.
 
Can you get Instax film locally? And if, even the Mini version?
 
While the Instax cameras are out of my budget, if they did a similar re-design in the wide format I'd be seriously tempted.

There are 5+ shops that carry Instax in my local area, FWIW. I've seen it at major big-box stores on down to the little mom-n-pop used photo stores in the neighborhood.
