It's sad. While it was a rumour, I really began thinking on whether stock up, or just supporting another company by buying their film. Still am. I think I'll buy a couple of five packs and call it a day. Still rather new to film photography. I've read some older fellows saying forty years ago, there were several less emulsions available for the public, but I don't know. Should I be scared of losing black and white forever? I'd really like to know others' inputs on the state of the industry.

People talk as if Fuji has some moral or ethical obligation to continue producing film and paper.

Well, if you listen to their own words that's a natural conclusion. The reaction you seem to not understand is how people feel when they are brazenly lied to.

I'm curious. What time was it when they last spoke about being commited to film?

Anyway, for me the Acros discontinuation came at a bad time. Other financial commitments prevented me from putting in a large order right now. But lets see, there will hopefully be a few more batches of Acros coming out of Fuji. Maybe I will have the opportunity to stock up in a few months. After that I will have to start thinking about increasing my Velvia FIFO buffer, for when comes what I dread...

I certainly understand how people feel whose favorite film is discontinued. It has happened to me several times over the years (Pan-X, Plus-X, Kodachrome, Ektachrome, various Polaroid films, etc.). But how I feel about it doesn't impose a moral or ethical obligation on the manufacturer to continue to produce it. Adults accept the fact that the product is no longer available and move on. It's fine to feel disappointed, but righteous indignation?

I may have mentioned this before, but I spoke to Fuji Ireland (local I know, in 2016) and they told me that they speculated that Fuji would have just one film offering (besides Instax) in the near future. It would be a 35mm C41 colour single pack 400 speed 36 exposure.

.
Their brochures for their film cameras (GF670, GF670W, Klasse S, Klasse W) prominently displayed text stating their commitment to preserving the art of film photography. Those were in production until 3-4 years ago.

To be fair, FujinotsomuchaboutFilm introduced BW instax film not so long time ago.
Well it's not really a BW film, Fuji only uses the term "monochrome" when talking about it. And it doesn't seem to be 100% monochrome either, many users report greenish color tint and when one photographs a scene with strong yellow and/or green tones, the final image will actually show a bit of that yellow/green coming through.
