There seems to be a couple of versions, 1st is a manual wind, zone focus, 28mm 3.9 with fixed 1/250th shutter, then the AF version, with 28mm 3.5, 5 element in 4 groups. not sure if the AF version has the same single speed shutter, or manual or auto advance, last a short zoom version which seems to have power winder. Not a lot of info that I've been able to find.

The AF version has a shutter from 1/5 sec to 1/250. Auto film advance and rewind. The lens is a 28mm 3.5 with 6 elements in 5 groups.
I have never seen or heard about the zoom version!

The Fuji K28 has a 29mm 3.9 lens, with single shutter speed. Zone focus.
Then there is the HD series (R, P, M) with a 38mm lens.

I agree with Fuji optics. It seems that they are always best in class. There is a reason Hasselblad had them build the Xpan and H series cameras.

Just received another Work Record this morning - with the pano function, so I think I'll be selling my other one (that works perfectly as can be seen from the pics above) if anyone is interested.

Shot and dev'd a test roll to make sure it all works.

Dude, I JUST bought one. Like, it arrived Tuesday just. I could have gotten yours for a known good camera... not that I'm really gambling here. It was $35.

Question: The pano. Is it the same frame just cropped on the film? So the negatives are 36mm wide? Not a different lens or anything?

Yeah it just crops it. But what is awesome is that the VF view changes - a mask drops down in that too and different pano frame lines appear. A really sweet touch as it makes you see everything in the pano mode, not regular that you can crop later, or regular with pano crop lines that doesn't let you just 'see' it as a pano image.
All my other P&S cameras that have a pano mode show the full vf all the time.

And another, even better feature of the Work Record Pano is that it lets you set the focus distance manually for zone focus. Not just at infinity, but at all the other regular zone focus steps. This means with the fantastic huge VF it becomes a fantastic street photog camera as it is always ready to go. Which brings up yet ANOTHER killer feature - the camera only turns off if you turn it off. I love that as there is no lag, no noise etc. You are in control.

The one bummer is like almost all P&S cameras, when you do turn it off, it reverts to the default settings when you turn it back on.

That would make a difference for me. I have trouble seeing formats sometimes, sometimes I have to look at things through a viewfinder just to understand how they might work. So that's a cool trick.

I've been testing mine. Still not done with the first roll, but I'm getting an idea of how it is. They're mushy buttoned beasts. I still don't know precisely when I took a shot as I hear the lens focus and the film advance, but it's not a "click" or anything. Somewhere in there I assume the shutter fired.

And it is silly looking. Wonderfully so. And the viewfinder is substantial, you can see outside the framelines, which is nice. Fill flash is probably fun for magnet-head group photos at parties.

So, it's limited, and hardly a fancy rangefinder. But as a rugged camera, it seems great. I have no issues standing on the jetty with it when the waves are threatening, and $35 is $35. If I hand it to someone and they drop it, it's no skin off my back.

It's one of the reasons I got a P&S. I used to make great use of fill flash, sold a lot of photos when I was a young man working at a gliderport because I knew how to do fill in harsh light. Crappy 4004s for the win!

Now I'm shooting with all these pro cameras that I couldn't dream of owning when I was 20. Everything from an M3 to an F3 to an F6 to a Z7... not a built in flash in the lot of 'em!

There are times when I'm too lazy to carry a flash gun. Especially for just walkin' around or hiking.

Yeah, this was in blazing sunlight, but back lit. Those traffic signs are reflective so they really shine the flash back. It pretty much was an experimental shot to see if:
1. The camera allows you to use flash no matter how bright it is - it does.
2. If it could then give an acceptable result - it does.

And that's what I love about these P&S cameras. You can do stuff like this. I would not have been able to with any of my Leica Ms, or Nikon SLRs due to flash sync speed unless I also brought along an ND filter. (actually you could - just use a slowish film and stop down to f22. May need to be in manual exp mode. But you get my point!)

With the Fuji? Just do it and see how it turns out!

Also... I think the flash in the Fuji is more powerful than most given the size of it. Good to 20 meters with ISO 800 film according to Fuji's technical specs.

A good way to get a feel for it is to dry fire it and look at the lens to see when it reacts. As it is a leaf shutter, you will see it close down/activate when it takes the exposure.
They are mushy buttoned beasts - that is the nature of having a membrane over the shutter button to maintain water resistance. My Nikon F3P actually is much worse!! The P version has the rubber membrane/cap over the shutter button.
But with both Word Records that I have, I can distinctly feel the point of resistance where it focuses/locks exposure - and you can see this too in the VF w the LEDs - pressure beyond that fires the shutter.

Of note, with the pano version that I have that I can manually set focus distance, it does not move to that set position until the camera takes the shot. So there still is a lag.

I'm just loving the huuuuge VF on these beasties! Nothing outside my Nikonos is bigger. No Contax peep holes here! (Or my Rollei QZ35, ahem..)

Shot another roll in the Pano version - just so much fun to use! The lens while technically the same as my regular model, has a different look to it. A bit softer and more smeary to the sides. Almost lomo-esque, but not that pronounced!

You see, now I want a pano. ALSO want a pano, as the normal one worked just fine for me.

The view is wide and easy, like normal, but with framing to help visualize... I totally don't need another camera. Every time I switch cameras I get annoyed that there's a different camera I want to use that's still in my dry box, so I'm not getting one, but it doesn't mean it wouldn't be fun to run a few rolls of panorama. Maybe if I see another lucky $35 deal.

The pic that shows the pano view in real life has much more of the top and bottom cropped out by the physical pano mask that appears. You can see the shadow of it - but because I had my iphone lens jammed into the vf, it makes it appear much less distinct.
It really is a nice and surprising touch. Outside Xpans I don't know of other cameras that physically change the VF when in pano mode.

I have a Stylus with a Pano mode, the bright line for the Pano Crop is just that a bright line, sort of annoying as I do not use Pano much, come to think about it, not at all.

Same with my Nikon AF600. Great camera, but lame pano implementation that is just annoying when you're not using it.
