Fuji Reala

I buy a 10 roll pack of the Imported Reala every 5-6 months. When I went to buy more today (I tend to burn a lot of film this time of year), I found out it's no longer available (the USA stuff is OOS, but will be $5/roll when available). What's a good, lower cost alternative? I'll pay $5/roll if I have to, but I got spoiled by the $3.50/roll shipped price I was getting before.

I don't want any more contrast or punchier colors than what I get with Reala. I'd rather go more saturated if that's the case. How is Pro 160S?

I bulk load B&W, is bulk loading color print film any different or riskier? I have a bulk loader sitting idle.

It looks like you can get Reala from Dead Link Removed, it's still listed on his website.

I can get it here when it's back in stock, but for twice the price. It's $9/roll at Megaperls if the currency conversion I did is correct.

And Fuji 160S is now available from www.fujilab.co.uk for GBP 1.69 a roll (of 120). They charge for propack of 5 GBP 14.02 so it is cheaper to order single rolls. I ordered 20 today and got an e-mail this afternoon that my order has shipped. At GBP 1.69 it is even cheaper than fuji 's Superia 100 (120).

if you do your own processing, then there shouldn't be any difference. If using a lab, there are difficulties, for one you need to be able to get your bulk cartridges back, your film will not be DX encoded, and some labs need the encoding to know how to deal with the film. Best is to ask the lab your going to use, if the guy looks at you funny when you mention bulk loaded film, then either forget it or pick a different lab.

$5/roll??

When I was in Korea last year it was just about $1.50/roll for 35mm, 36exp. Needless to say I stalked up. I imagine Japan has similar if not cheaper prices if you know anyone there.

A potential problem with buying single rolls Frank is if you're shooting more than one roll on a shoot all the shots aren't from the same emulsion batch , and you may get a variation in the colour rendition, this could be important in some circumstances.

Today, 3 days after ordering, the films were delivered at my home address in the Netherlands. They turned out to be even cheaper than on the website because they were billed without VAT, though I do not have a VAT-number to deduct VAT and the UK is in the EU, just as the Netherlands. I don't mind of course.

I ordered 20 rolls of 160s since those were a lot cheaper compared to 4 propacks of 5 rolls each. Guess what was delivered? Indeed, 4 Propacks of 5 rolls each...

Seems odd that a 5 roll pack would be more expensive per roll, then single rolls. Since the seller would usually get them in cartons of 5 roll packs. So many 5 roll packs per carton, sized so that so many cartons fit on a pallet, and pallets are usually sized so that so many pallets fit in a shipping container. Makes you wonder though how many rolls of film will fit in a 2.7m wide by 2.7m tall by 16m long shipping container?????

Very odd indeed and as I just saw, the single rolls are no longer for sale on the website. I also thought it to be strange since usually a pack of 5 or more is cheaper per roll than single rolls on their own. Guess I was lucky, 20 rolls of 160s (120) for 33 GBP including shipping. The packs are dated at May 2010.

By the way, included was a leaflet mentioning Fuji's professional films and their specifications and Reala was amongst them.

Maybe they read your posts Frank, Reala is a pro/am film , but whatever you call it it's good stuff.
