Fuji quick load?

Hello Folks, I have been given some 4x5 film to develop. There are two standard film holders and three Fuji Quick Loads. How do I get the film out of those? I assume there is only one sheet each, right. And the fellow who gave them to me said that there is a plastic sheet with the film? Any help would be appreciated, I don't want to screw up his shots.

Gosh - none to practice on first? Oh well. In the dark you tug hard at that metal clip at the bottom of the sleeve holding the envelope together. This will pull out the whole entrails of what counts. The film will be attached to a plastic leader strip. You just carefully feel with your fingertips for what is actually film and what is not, and carefully peel it away from the leader. At that point it will feel just like regular sheet film, with a code notch at one corner.

I'd used QL's for years, until they quit making them. Typically I would, in a dark bag, remove the metal end clip. It just pops off. The film and leader slides right out of that end.
Both the plastic leader and small end piece where the metal clip was can be separated away from the actual film. Easier done after one has done if for awhile, but be careful in the beginning. This is all much easier in a dark room if you have access. Again, I used a film tent for years and had little problem doing it.

I am just getting into 4x5 and have bought some outdated Fuji Quick Loads to be picked up when I visit NYC from the UK in 3 weeks time. Just a question, when handling the film (or indeed any 4x5 being developed) do folks use gloves?

I personally do not use gloves during loading and unloading film in 4x5 holders. I do however wash my hands and dry them to perfection prior to doing any of it. I have never lost a sheet to date using this process in a dark-tent.

I always wear vinyl gloves when handling film - Saves getting fingerprints on the emulsion and reduces dust problems.

Still got a couple of boxes of Fuji Readyloads in the freezer. Must find some time to use them (and something worth shooting).
