Fuji Press 800: Is it a good-quality film?

Have any of you used this film? Can you tell me if its grain is minute and hardly detectable? I have an important shooting assignment coming up shortly and a camera store near me recommended it, but I can't trust their opinion. Thanks.

Two or three times, as is not as readily available as Supra 800 in Uruguay. I had no problems with graininess; in fact it seemed quite minor compared to the Supra. I prefer the warm skin tones of the later.

For an 800 speed film, I've found it to be pretty good. The Fuji professional films (NPZ, used to be NHG II) have less grain even at 4x6, but cost more. With either film, a good 400 speed film will beat any of them for grain. I used a great deal of 800 Press, NHGII, NPZ, and even the Fuji Superia 800 ( Acts just like 800 Press, as far as I could tell) a few years ago.

The Kodak consumer 800 speed films are total junk in comparison to any of the Fuji films. I haven't used Portra 800, I don't think it was out then. I actually have the need over the next month to shoot basketball in dim gyms, and will probably use Press 800 or NPZ.

Superia 800 is a consumer version of Pro800 IIRC

I haven;t used this one in several years, but Pro800 used to be a very good film, fast and lenient on exposures. Very nice color balance (bright green as in all Fujis)

I use this film once a week for my horse racing photographs - I like it a lot, but I would hardly call the grain structure "minute". The grain is there, for sure, but it is not objectionable.

I must add though, I scan the film and print on a lightjet printer. I sometimes use a noise reduction program to remove the grain, especially on big prints.

Why don't you buy a roll and shoot it as a test to see if you like it? That's the only way you work out if it will be suitable for your needs.

I like the film alot for an 800 speed color. I don't shoot much color, usually only band photos of my buddies band.
