Fuji Neopan 400 At Freestyle

I just picked up 40 rolls of Fuji Neopan 400 at Freestyle. They said that they had 800 rolls in stock.

Freestyle told me back in March, 120 was discontinued and they were expecting one more shipment? ? ?

There are a few places that have them including Justfilm and Camcor.com. I nabbed 20 rolls each from both places.

Since I have the luxury of stopping by Freestyle on my way home--should I? I usually shoot Tri-X, am I missing out if I don't grab some?

Missing out.... Not really. Some people swear by this film....It is good, and it was my staple for the longest time and worked great with developers like Pyrocat HD. That said, with films like TMY-II and Tri-X, HP5+ around... What's the point? Neopan has similar, but smaller grain than regular Tri-X 400, but Neopan shadows and highlights are not that great compared to ALL the others. I think you'd be underwhelmed.

Depends on what you want from a film, I think. I found it to have a longer toe than Tri-X. Good shadow detail. I liked it when I used it. I shoot mostly 35mm and picked up several hundred feet of the rebranded Neopan 400 on sale there. So, I will be shooting it again. I develop it in D76.

I just bought 20 rolls from B&H. Should hold me long enough til I find a replacement. I'm still not super impressed with either HP5 or Tri-x, though I'm still working on it.

It's nothing special. Don't get me wrong, it's a good product and looks to me a lot like Tri-X - not exactly the same, but darned close. I liked it because it was inexpensive compared to the other films in the same size and speed class. If it were to make a comeback and offered the same sort of price advantage, I'd buy it again.

I prefer Presto in 35mm, not 120. But that's me.

Ilford Delta 400 is a quality 35mm film in my experience

Yep. Nobody needs to go out and buy Neopan 400. It's a completely unremarkable film. In fact it's not even that good. Everyone should use TriX instead. There's no need to go buy up remaining stocks of Neopan 400, it's such a bad film, really. I don't know when I'll ever use the few dozen roll stockpile in my freezer.

I love Neopan. I've had very nice results with it and because I shoot so much of it, I know it very well and can get what I need from it.

Yep, just goes to show you that everyone has different preferences. I personally think Neopan 400 was the best 400 speed film available in 120. In the past few months I've been trying Tri-x and HP5 to find a replacement to no luck yet, another reason to buy more Neopan to last me til I'm content.

I would say that with the 100, but not the 400, even though I only use the 100 for special purposes (long exposures). The 400 is good, like all Fuji films, but I prefer T-Max 400 for when I want a super-fine-grained 400 film.

Wasn't there another post on APUG that Neopan will still be made, the only difference being it will be sold five rolls at a time and a slightly higher price per roll?

Neopan Acros 100 in 5 packs, not Neopan 400. N400 is DOA.
