Fuji GX680 Question

I just got ahold of a Fuji GX680 in what I thought was great condition, but I’m encountering a problem: the mirror is acting funny. When I flip the mirror lock up, the battery light blinks for a few seconds, followed by the flashing warning light. Also, after I take one picture, when I try to take another the mirror will lock up and I get the flashing lights again.

Something to note is that the battery pack is a homemade 6 AA battery holder, but this is a common workaround with this model since the original batteries are pretty rare.

I can still use the camera by just turning it off and on continuously between each shot, but that’s kind of annoying. I’m also wondering if it’s worth it to have it repaired into tip top condition seeing as it was really cheap.

I had that same problem (weird mirror action and blinking signs on the display) as well when I got my GX680 III. In my case the curl-pit were the batteries I was using. Turns out that the camera, or at least my camera, is very picky about the batteries you are using.

The camera needs 9V to operate in a correct manner. When I used regular rechargeable AA's I only got 7.2V. As you know the nominal clamping voltage of a rechargeable is only 1.2 V and using 6 of those in series gives you 6*1.2 V. Switching to proper 1.5V batteries solved my problem.

My suggestion therefor is to try the camera with 6 fresh, non-rechargeable AA's and see what happens. If you are already using fresh non-rechargeable ones your issue differs from the one I had. On the other hand, if the camera works as expected when it gets 9V I suggest to have a look at these batteries: AA shaped 1.5V Li-ion batteries. I am using these all the time with my GX680 and they never gave me any trouble.

Hello! Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately I am using fresh, non rechargeable batteries. I think you are right in that the problem lies in some sort of electrical deficiency.

Have you checked the voltage output of your battery pack? You did say it was home-made, so verifying all the wires are correct and the output voltage is ~ 9V wouldn't be a bad plan.

Also, and I'm in full-blown speculation mode, since my camera hasn't shown up yet, I've been reading the repair guide and it talks about a switch that determines if you're using the AC adapter or the battery pack (so I assume it's in the slot the battery plugs into**). It says if that switch is defective (or not being tripped by the battery pack), then you might get a battery warning light.

** There's a slot in the AC adapter about half an inch down from the "top" contacts. I assume that allows the switch to be open. Does your battery pack press that switch down?

There's a discussion about power, and that micro-switch on the side of the camera-- it suggests that maybe your problem is too much voltage..? The gx680 I/II both run on NiCd batteries with 7.2v. The gx680 III runs off of 9v, and for more confusion the external power supply produces 8v. So maybe you should try rechargeables (1.2v) and see if it works a bit better.

I recently received a Fuji GX 680 ( I think I have the II) and I am having trouble with it firing on single or continue. It fires on multi, and mirror lock up functions work, however it will not fire on single. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have uploaded some images. One is of the side of the camera; in hopes someone can tell me which one I have.
another image is of the Film back I think its the most modern of the bunch. And third is the battery pack.

I added the image of the film back because I wonder if I need the older versions.
I also added the battery pack image because I have read that sometimes the battery voltage can be a problem.

All batteries are new; slide is always out when trying to take image, tested out 6 different lenses... I am at a lost.
