How hard should the hood be to move forward/backward?

Are some things just harder to focus on?

Is this viewfinder just naturally dark?

I have the III. The hood shouldn't be too hard to move forward/backward. I haven't noticed a problem focusing, but something with clear edges is easier. My viewfinder doesn't seem that dark.

I think the hood on mine isn't perfectly round anymore. Must have gotten squeezed some how.

It's not dark outside but indoors it's not exactly bright.

Hi, I have a 69011 and the viewfinder has fogged up somewhat making it a little more difficult to focus. The sliding hood is REALLY stiff, that's because I have dropped the camera several times and the hood is egg shaped!

Some thing must have happened to this one to. It's not visibly out of round but it still catches a bit.

I have the GSW690 III and the hood doesn't slide back easily either. I just give it a slight turn while pulling it back and it slides back much easier.
As far as the viewfinder is concerned, I haven't had any issues with it.
I really like using the camera as it has a great lens.

I have the GW690 III with a smooth working lens shade. And I have the GSW690 III with an almost sticky lens shade. But as papagene pointed out, a short turn helps a lot.

The viewfinders are great - very bright compared to my Contax, so I can't complain. Sometimes it helps to screw off the viewfinder glass and clean it from both sides. Then use a Q-tip (cotton swab?) with some alcohol to clean the tiny window for the patch.

I do the same thing. Just turn the hood while pulling it out. Works fine for me that way.
