220 Agfa Optima 400

Disappointed with the results but could be due to its expired status. Magenta cast is apparent.

Hum. I have some Optima frozen since new (according to the guy I bought it from off eBay anyway) except for transit time to me. I didn't notice any magenta cast or any other problems in the last I shot, but I suppose I do need to be shooting it up. It was a nice film. But Ultra 50 and Portrait 160 were the ones I'd really like to have back, at opposite ends of the saturation spectrum, as there's nothing really like either now. Ektar is pretty saturated but not nearly as over the top as Ultra 50 and there's just nothing like the pastel Portrait 160.

There are problems reported about loose or slack rolls with the GA645 - series.
Use your thumb on the film when loading to make sure the film starts tight on the take-up spool.
The manual shows how to tension the film and load it carefully to prevent those problems.
At last, make sure that both spools are seated properly before closing the back.

I know the problem very well :

I understand that spooling expired film can be frustrating with the counter stuck at 1.

Returning this thread back to it's subject heading, I just bought a close up kit for my Fuji GA645. I'll get it in hand over the weekend and look forward to experimenting with it.
