Has anyone used this paper before?

I'm in Japan and found it for sale here never heard of it wondering if I should get some

50 sheet 11x14 double weight g2 vc for 10500 yen

The things you learn on APUG. Although I had visited the Japan Exposures website before, I never knew or noticed Fuji makes BW paper, and that Japan Exposures sells it:

Why not give it a try? It seems to have been available both in fixed grade and variable grade, but fixed grade 3 discontinued in 2007 according to the Japan Exposures website...

I have never used it myself, but I have seen that it is sold by Monochrom in Berlin. Right now they only seem to have a limited number of sizes, but you can read their own description of the paper. It is obviously a high quality paper but expensive.

I tried it several years ago. Nice base, which I'd describe as a heavy single-weight or light double-weight, i.e. "medium weight." It has always been variable contrast. There used to be two versions; one was grade 2 with no filter and the other grade 3 with no filter. The default grade 3 version was discontinued.

You might wonder why Fuji would go to the trouble of making two such versions rather than simply a single paper adjustable with filters over a wider range. There are a number of reasons. First, it's easier to obtain well-behaved characteristic curves when VC paper only needs to cover a narrower range of contrasts. Second, this approach makes it possible to avoid sensitizing that's susceptible to focus shift from UV passed through enlarging lenses which suffer from lateral chromatic aberration. Finally, a given grade's characteristic curve can vary between the two versions (e.g. the default grade 2's curve with no filter distributes tones among toe, straight line and shoulder areas differently than did the default grade 3's curve when printed through a #2 filter).

Unfortunately, I much preferred the default grade 3 version, which was discontinued shortly after I completed the test.

I tried this paper when it was introduced, nice paper I prefered Ilford Warmtone. The cost of getting it to Canada was crazy , crazy crazy expensive so never went further with it.

Are the reasons you give for this paper actually given by Fuji, or are they your assumptions?

I would like to hear more about reason #2.
What is lateral chromatic aberration?
How does sensitization affect it,
&
How does UV fit in?

Again, Does Fuji claim such an advantage for these products?

It's fiber-based.

I prefer "inferences" to "assumptions." I've not read anything from Fuji providing those reasons.

Again, Fuji has not, to my knowledge, made any claims about this. Another inference -- why else would Fuji have gone to the trouble of developing two multigrade papers rather than one? I do assume, however, that the default grade 3 version was discontinued due to low sales volume.

Ah, yes thats the word I was looking for!

OTOH, "inference" might be too strong a term - so I don't know.

I will need to read Cetin, in detail, but the tiny bit I could see here (pg 151,152) seems to be highly (and unnecessarially?) stress inducing!
