Yes I had always thought that Autumn began at the autumnal solstice in 21st September but the BBC weatherman says it begins on 1st September meteorologically speaking. I blame these young marketing types with their dayglo braces for all these changes.Oh and Facebook as wellIt's not Autumn yet...
+1Where I live it feels like Autumn already. !!!
I'm with you. The same nonsense is uttered here. Why we can't call fall, fall, and summer, summer is beyond me. I wonder what happens at the equator?Yes I had always thought that Autumn began at the autumnal solstice in 21st September but the BBC weatherman says it begins on 1st September meteorologically speaking. Good catch. My Dad's name was Bernal, there was a road in my hometown called Vernal Avenue, I wondered why it wasn't Bernal.Excuse pedantry but Northern Hemisphere has Autumn equinox, not solstice, about September 23. And, yes, the relationship between astronomical seasons and calendar seasons does seem arbitrary.
So in the Southern hemisphere is Christmas in the winter or summer?
That's just to darn hot, period.Summer. My sister in law lives in Australia and talked about it being 44C on Christmas Day.
race between Fuji and the Italian folks
My friends in Brazil always took two weeks of summer vacation at Christmas.
Joinville, Sao Carlos. Business friends. Beautiful country. Churrasco. You need no other reason to visit other than the food. Hopefully American fast food hasn't destroyed the country. Last time I was there was about 10 years ago. First visit was 1995.You have friends down here?
It’s funny when it’s Xmas here: it’s scorching hot, but the decoration on shipping malls are all about snow and Santa Claus wearing those warm red clothes.
I flew out of San Francisco on a winter solstice many years ago. People looked at me a little weird at me with my shorts and sandals at SFO in December (well, weirder than usual), but we landed in Sydney at a humid 45C (113F). Going from the shortest day to the longest day of the year was a bit weird, too.Summer. My sister in law lives in Australia and talked about it being 44C on Christmas Day.
If I was a betting person, I know who my money would be on.

Funny thing two of the families of the two guys I worked the closest with have moved from Joinville to Benton Harbor, Michigan USA. Right on Lake Superior, there's a beach, the water is crystal clear, clean and on a warm summer day, towards the end of summer, maybe 5-10°C, if you stay in shallow waterNice places. If you intend on coming to visit your friends at São Carlos or Joinville, you should.
Food is great and most people prefer eating real food, like rice, beans and some protein (beef, chicken or fish). Fast food is everywhere and here’s no different. Even I eat at Taco Bell, Mickey D’s, BK or KFC sometimes. But it has not, in any way, destroyed our country.
Our new president, on the other hand...
My wife bought a computer controlled pressure cooker, very fast.
So back to Acros II, I hope it's good enough win over the sceptics.
Not where I live. Today the actual temperature (in the shade) was 102 degrees F. Only one degree from the all-time high for this date of 103F. For a long time, I have considered September as another month of Summer where I live. The folks over in Texas are "enjoying" similar temperatures. What you folks consider as Fall weather will arrive here in very late September or early October. Most of the trees change color here in November. Down on the Gulf of Mexico they are "sweating-out" two more months of Hurricane Season. Also it is the beginnings of Spring for some of our friends in South America and all of our friends in Australia and New Zealand. My friend in Bolivia tells me "yes, Global Warming is visible in the Andes no matter who doesn't believe that it exists...........Regards!I'm with you. The same nonsense is uttered here. While I'm at it stay on standard time all year round too.
More egregious pedantry! We don't and can't have fall in Australia, only autumn. Why? The entire vast mainland of Australia does not contain even one deciduous species of native tree: no seasonal leaf-fall. Our highest altitude trees, the snow gums, stay in full leaf even when totally buried in snow.I'm with you. The same nonsense is uttered here. Two countries separated by a common language. We have "fall" even without trees.More egregious pedantry! We don't and can't have fall in Australia, only autumn. Why?
