yes, they do work together and give very nice results.
IMHO 1+50 Rodinal for 12 minutes, agitating first 30secs and then every other minute worked fine.

Thank you!
Better than APX 100 in grain, tonality and acutance?

;-))
So I have some nice job this weekend... testing...boring...

I was told that Tgrain, Deltas or Sigma grains are not as sharp as APX in Rodinal!?

Not as sharp?
.........As I said before, try a roll or 2 and see.

.My test sequence :
1. Define a time/temperature/agtation development procedure
2. Expose a roll of film with a target or a sample scene ad bracket -2,-1,0,+1,+2
After each bracketing leave and empty frame and repeat
3. Develop a piece of the roll in the development procedure from 1
4. Analyze results and either adjust film speed based on those or repeat with a new procedure.

I can usually get to what I want with 1 roll and 3 or 4 "loads" of development

Try it with Rodinal 1+100 for about 18 minutes at 20C. Agitate 15s each minute for 3 minutes then one inversion every three minutes.

Looks gorgeous, at least on 120 film. Sharp, nice tonal range, grain free.

What speed are you exposing at?

I have done 1 roll of Fuji in Rodinal with ok results. Later I will try some more rolls and fine-tune the time...but I use Delta 100 in Rodinal with great result, so the motivation for exploring Acros is not so big at the moment.

Howdy!

I love the Acros/Rodinal combination! I've always exposed it at ASA 100 and developed it 1:50 for 10 minutes @ 68 deg F.

I recently shot a few rolls @ ASA50 and developed them in Rodinal 1:50 for 11 min @ 68 degF... now this was 120mm film, just so you know.

I quite like the results for both of these. I know the times sound a little close, but the negs are great!

I love Acros. It's a nice film. I think one of my favorites is APX 100 (for 120mm) and PanF+ or Acros for 35mm.

Hope this helps some!

In 4x5, I get fabulous results with Acros shot at 64, developed in Rodinal 1:50 at 68F for 10 minutes. Great shadow detail, and tonality that's so smooth it's almost unreal. I really wish Fuji would bring 4x5 Acros into the US without the QuickLoads...and get rid of the little hole they punch in the film for hanging the negatives when they're drying. It's just too far into the image area for my taste.

I like the same combination in 120 as well...but in 4x5 it really sings.

Thank you all very much!

Meanwhile I have tested it with my densitometer and come to:

125/22 ISO logD 0,13 or
100/21 ISO logD 0,17

for -N- development

Rodinal 1+50 12 Min. with 2 Min. presoak in water, then first minute continuous agitation, then all 30 sec. agitate once.

Rodinal solved in "destilled water".

I think I will use this combination at 100/21 ISO.

Which agitation, please? that sounds interesting, too.
Thank you!

You could always do your own importing.

Sorry...should have specified...this is in a drum on a motorized base, so it's continuous, slow agitation. Also, this was when I was using a cold light; now that I've switched back to a condensor I'll probably shorten the time about 10-15%.

Hi Mongo,

I have no motorized drum, still agitating by inversion.
I just heard of 64 ASA at 20 C, Rodinal 1+50 for 13 min., with 10 sec. (about 5x) agitation each minute.
I will try this also, may be the results will be similar to yours!

10 minutes at continuous agitation is close enough to 13'10" with normal agitation; I'd expect the negatives to be similar.

Best of luck.

Thank you for comments.

I've got some waiting to be done, although I've had excellent results in HC-110 1:51. With Neopan 400, Rodinal 1:25 is a definite winner! Super-fine grain for a 400 speed film, and excellent tones. So I don't see why it shouldn't be the same with Acros.

Here's what it looks like with Contax G, developed in HC-110.

Thanks

Just a quick message to say thanks to PC Headland, nze and other APUG contributors to this. Last night I wanted to process a 120 roll of Neopan 100 Acros and wondered whether rodinal would be any use (having run out of the ID-11 I normally use). As the rodinal instructions didn't mention this film so I searched this forum and found the recommendations above of 1+100 at 20 degrees C, agitate 15 secs for each of the first 3 mins, then 1 inversion every 3 mins.

I have to say I was a little skeptical, only adding 3 ml to 600 ml of water, which, to my inexperienced mind, seemed a very tiny amount, and that the rodinal instructions only refer to 1+25 and 1+50 dilutions.

After fix and wash my skepticism was removed, and (whispers quietly) having scanned the negs - sacrilege I know, but I don't have a darkroom (raises voice again) I'm very impressed with the results.

So thank you again APUGers.

That would be 1+200; did you actually use that dilution, or is it a mis-typing?

oops, a mistype

Thanks for spotting that one Magnus, indeed it was a mistype, I did use 6 ml.

Glad you liked it!

This was the first film I developed, and it took quite a bit of searching for a time for Rodinal and Acros. It was also the first roll of film I ran through the newly acquired Yashica LM. Fortunately, the results were excellent.
