Fuji Acros 100 (4 x 5) to be discontinued after 2018

I can't see any thread on this elsewhere. Bad news, as we are finally seeing the beginning of the end of Acros. Fujifilm's famed "commitment to film" shows how empty a promise this has been for years.

Its sad to see it go but with Fujifilm's pricing not unexpected, counting prices from maco of relatively comparable films:

Per sheet prices:

Delta 100: 1.65E
T-MAX 100: 2.5E
Acros 100: 4.45E

At these prices ofcourse the pool of photographers that will stick to it shrinks and shrinks... :-(

Holy Fuji

Pricing has increased quite a bit for Fuji and it is fearful to know who's next in line.
Acros is a brutally excellent film and hope they don't don't axe it.

Rattymouse, you talk about the commitment and there were the Superia news also. Ironically there was a relaunch of the line last year.

Though I dont shoot Acros, I think it is kind of unique in terms of reciprocity failure factor, which at least could justify the price difference with Ilford and Kodak films.. Sad they cut off another product.

Acros is by far my most shot film. I shoot 20 or more rolls of Acros for every other roll of film that I shoot. If Acros 120 gets axed, I will buy up as much as I can, and then that's it for me and film.

My message to Fuji- If you don't want to make black and white film anymore, don't let the door hit you in the a$$ on the way out!

Acros is a great film. Neopan 400 was a great film too, as was Neopan SS. Packfilm too. They killed off all of them. It is what it is. I'll just go buy from someone else and they will be healthier for it.

That's disappointing, even though I don't shoot Acros in 4x5. That said, I've been having so much fun shooting pinholes I've thought about getting a 4x5 pinhole - not having Acros would make me reconsider. However, 2019 is still a bit of ways off, so I could stock up before then. What worries me more is if the smaller formats suddenly increase in price and/or also get cut.

While I don't (yet) shoot medium format, I have been a fan of Acros. Until recently. Tmax100 gives nearly the same results, and Delta 100 in Xtol makes really really nice negatives. Too bad Delta is the most expensive of the 3 in 35mm.

Hoard or switch. Or go wet plate. Nobody can take that away from you.

You start a thread that says 4x5 Acros is discontinued without mentioning it is going to be available for two and a half years, then you write off all other films. You either like shooting film or you don't. No film is magic.

This isn't social media. You don't get points for drama. People here appreciate accuracy, not hyperbole.

The only links I see in phlogblographer's article are the ones that Amazon lights up for him in exchange for some bucks (or something). I've been all over the Fuji sites (USA and global) and I'm not seeing any official announcement. Where is it?

You'd have thought that that the phoblographer site would have given a link to the actual Fuji announcement, given its importance. As well as a fairly vague date of "after 2019"( so Jan 2020 at earliest but could be later in terms of months/years) it states that this is only 4x5 film but "we(phoblographer) will confirm this in the morning". Does the phoblographer have a special PR relationship with Fuji? It sounds as if it gets the news first from the Fuji boardroom. Indeed depending on how powerful that site is, it may be the only way of authenticating anything from Fuji

If we never see an official announcement from Fuji, could it be that tomorrow morning, the fresh announcement from the link site will be that after considerable protest and pressure, phoblographer is proud to announce that Fuji has postponed any announcement while it reviews the situation D:

The Phoblographer has usually been the first place I've found news about Fuji's most recent film discontinuation. They've been right 100% of the time for the past 3-4 years at least.

They typically link to Fuji's official announcements but in this case did not. I assume they are privy to the inside information and will provide a link once available.

In advance, yes. 2 years is pretty long and not done before. My guess is that they coated the final roll and expect that to last for the next 2 years or so.

Acros 4x5 and Acros 8x10 have "expected shipment completion" dates (as translated by Bing) of May 2018. (Acros 120 and 35mm seem not to be affected.) Natura 1600 (35mm) and some disposable film cameras are also being nixed around that same time. Interestingly, they recommend Superia 800 as a replacement to Natura 1600, conflicting with reports elsewhere that that emulsion was discontinued.

There is a footnote about some of these dates being subject to change depending on sales (?), but it's not clear to me where or how that applies.
