I recently purchased a Fuji 90mm f/8 Fujinon SW Lens (216mm Image Circle) in Seiko B Shutter (35MT) that was rated as bargain on KEH. The lens arrived and is in really nice condition. I have two questions, if anyone can help me out. The filter thread size is not listed on the lens name plate. Does anyone have this lens that could provide that information? I need to source a lens cap for the front. If possible the rear as well. Also, I usually shield my LF lenses with a dark slide however, should I source a lens hood for this lens? Any inputs, greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Last time I needed Fuji lenscaps I got them from KEH.
Usually the "Lens Hood" (compendium shade) attaches to your camera front standard, rather than the lens. What kind of camera do you have?
Lens shades are very helpful on wide wide angle lenses, and because the Fujinon SW lenses were single-coated, it's an even better idea to get one. That said, the shade you get depends on the film format you plan to use it with. The larger the format, the wider the shade should be to avoid vignetting.
I have that lens, the OD of the rear element is 64mm.
The OD of the front element is 70mm.
I have press fit covers for both, with the front being a plastic Nikon unit and the rear being a quite old Wollensak Rochester metal unit with some soft velour type material inside.
I use my film darkslide for lens shading for everything from 65mm through to 250mm with nary an issue. A compendium lens shade has been on my wish list for around the last 20 years, somehow I think one of them has missed my boat.
There have been very few times I've wished for a lens hood, last week while photographing a tree trunk surrounded by raging floodwaters, was one of those times one could have been handy. The reflection of the foam from the water was certainly a slight issue that occurs quite rarely; this was one of those times.
I have the SW S version of the lens. Threads are 67mm. I use the collapsible Hama rubber lens hood collapsed to the wide angle position. No vignetting from the hood except a touch with extreme front rise. I think the lens has a bit of flare and you would benefit from a hood.
