I am down to just two , GW 690III and a GW 690II. I had a GSW but it was just too wide for me. For my kind of work these cameras with TMY 2 is the greatest. I also shoot RZs and love them. But the Fujis are just pure camera, no batteries, huge negative, 8 shots to a roll ,. Shutter sounds like the click of an old toy gun, they really snap.. I had a couple of really nice Leicas, things drove me crazy, negative the size of a stamp 36 exposure rolls, but quiet and what a wonderful range/viewfinder.
If I could only have one camera Fuji 690 would be it.

I would like something between the Leica and Fuji; either a 6x6 or 645 rangefinder. Yes there is the Bronica RF645 and the Mamiya 6, but those use electronics.

I find the Fuji is just too much for taking candid and action shots. Only 8 shots per roll, plus the shallower DOF/speed sort of kills anything that might take a few shots to get, but doesn't need 36 shots.

Mark Steinmetz is a photographer who has done wonderful work with the 6x9. He is really one of photography's best kept secrets, and his books are some of my absolute favorites, more so than many "name" photographers.

Candid/action can be slow with any medium format camera. The fuji can take 220 (and there's quite a bit of that still around) for 16 shots/roll. I don't find it any slower to use than most any other medium format camera, the fastest being perhaps an RZ with prism finder and motor drive and L-grip.

ANY MF camera seems lightning fast to operate to me. But I'm stupid enough to sometimes try photographing wildlife with an 8x10.

Is Frank still working? I had him cla several cameras ten years ago or more. The quality of his work and general service really went downhill after his assistent left.

He repaired a shutter on one of my cameras two years ago - very good work and fast (based on shipping dates, it took him about a day to fix it).

He did mention to me in email that he's trying to cut back on the volume of work. I think he accepted my camera because it is unusual and almost nobody works on them.

Def have a series of books from the St Louis World's Fair all about photographing wildlife at night using plate camera and the like...may be up your alley ;-)

Few years back when we had the 6x9 in the store, and I held it, I so wanted to take it home with me.

Sure it's like a large SLR, but it produced bigger negs in a smaller package/weight than my Mamiya RB67 did. (... but then so did some of my folding cameras, but that's besides the point).
