Fuji 400H Film Development Problems

Hello everyone,
Today I went to local lab to develop my 120 Fuji 400H. After scanning I noticed unusual color cast on some of my negs (please see pictures). Film was fresh and my Bronica 645 magazine has no any problems or leaks. What is it? Lab old chemicals?
Will appreciate any input.

Will expire in May, 2015. Came from US to Canada, I don't think they X-rayed it on the border.

Are you sure you don't have a light leak? kind of looks like one...

Also it looks to me like scanning issue, the black point isn't set properly.

The picture shows purple in positive (some zone).
Possible causes: improper storage of film, stop of developer slow and uneven ..
Perhaps it is the transition of your film from developer to the next solution
with an excess of developer.
Not went well the clear drops.
Solutions are generally homogeneous and even if it was old it came out so the whole surface film.

Failure that you see in your image reminds me of two things:
- In 1990, a friend built a developer machine for color paper.
We are working with color paper AZOMURES.
After the first test pictures appeared on areas / streaks - purple.
Color developer working at 31 °C, and the solution was next at °20 C.
I realized that it produces condensate developer the cover
above that fall on the paper machine developed is before bleachers.
I put a baffle to direct condensate fall into developer and solved the problem.
- The color slides Provia 400 (expired for several years) I fault similar to yours.
E6 processing I using a recipe that I improvised.
Velvia 50 (all expired) get it right with the same process E6.
What happened to your film I does not know how to tell you.
For that is interesting photographic processes.
Have a mystery.

How do the negatives in question look to the eye? You say some of the negs are OK? If it were a lab problem the entire roll would be affected similarly. I'm guessing underexposure but it does seem that the black areas of the scan lack "substance." That would indicate a processing problem.

There is something really strange about that film, it is full of colours while this is the black-and-white sub-forum. Is the OP able to move it to the colour/color sub-forum, or does that need a mod?

Without knowing the real scene it is difficult to say but the colours all look right except for being seriously "washed out". Have you had any prints done from this neg?

Thanks for all your replies. I just talked to lab owner where film was developed, he told me it possible that film was under impact of heat damage. I am attaching second image... What do you think?

Looks better than the first neg but while muted colours are OK I'd say this is still a little washed out. I don't know what heat damage looks like unfortunately so can't comment further

Sometimes when a 120 roll is finished it isn't rolled tight enough and light gets in. I wonder if those purple casts down both edges are a sign of this.

Did you scan it yourself? Because that looks kind of like a common scanning error (light bleed/flare due to lack of mask around a particularly dense negative) that has been corrected with auto-levels. My guess is that it's just a really bad scan. Do you have successful (high quality) scans from other rolls?

If you look at the negative, is there any (magenta) fogging extending out of the frame boundary which would produce the green fog we're seeing in the middle of each frame? Can you post a digital photo of the negative held up against a white background on your PC screen?

This is a C41 film. When one of these negatives look washed out it is invariably bad development. The scan looks underdeveloped. You say more are like this, but imply scans. Seeing them would help.

Scanner is completely fine. I scanned at the same time another roll of Portra film and it was okay.

Image with Provia 400 expired in september 2001 - developed at home in february 2007.
In the bottom left shows a defect similar to yours.

Just got my film from the same batch developed in another lab and it came nice and clean as it should (see attached) Seems like previous lab ruined my film. Thanks everyone for your replies!
