Up for sale is a Thomas Duplex Super Safelight in good used condition.

Although I haven't used this, everything appears to be accounted for and in good shape. It looks to be setup with OC filters currently, including opaque baffles on the adjustable "flaps". Hanging chain and baffle-adjusting chains are present and in good shape. Has a 3-prong AC chord with inline switch.

The foam seals are deteriorating but will clean up easily and can probably be left as is, or replaced with some weather stripping. The bulb appears to be in good shape, though I have no idea how much it has actually been used. It's certainly a lot brighter than the safe-lights I'm used to!

Asking $100, plus shipping (UPS ground, actual costs). Everything will be shipped very carefully; which means I'll remove the bulb and the filters and make sure that they arrive intact. Please feel free to ask any questions or to make me an offer.

Thanks!

Chris

P.S. I will donate 3% to APUG. Paypal is the preferred mode of payment.

Excellent units. I own one and have tested it on (pre-flashed) Ilford MGIV RC & FB for up to 60 minutes with the vanes wide open, at which point I ended the test. Not a hint of paper fog could be seen. Don't know how long I could have continued, but the darkroom was as brightly lit - albeit in monochromatic orange - as having the normal white lights on.

The trick to pass along is to add a single layer of inexpensive Roscoe #19 Fire theatrical filter to augment the standard b&w filtration set. The unit then goes from being very, very good to being virtually fog-proof.

With or without this simple modification, these are very nice units.

I have this safe light in my home darkroom as well as in the one I teach in. It's probably the best safelight there is, it is very hard to go back to standard safelights after using this. Very well built and a pleasure to use.

The foam reseal is very easy, I had to do mine as well. If color printing you can change the filters too, though the originals are hard to find. Bulbs are still made and are replaceable at around $25 when buying a standard sodium vapor type instead of the grossly over priced oem version.

I have though experienced fogging with my vanes up as I like to use the original orange filters instead of the dimmer red. With the vanes down the light cut off is much more. For people building a darkroom this is a great upgrade.

That's a Super clean Super Safelight!

If you check my thread (there was a url link here which no longer exists), I give complete instructions on how to change out the filters with new Rosco gels. One trick I've picked up since then is to add a piece of foam core in the out vanes to help cut down the light when needed. Mine has tested as very safe with this setup, but I still keep it dialed back when I am making final prints. When making contact sheets, it's wide open!

By the way, I would consider partial trade for a Grafmatic 4x5" in good working order.
