When I lived on Phillip Island in Australia, there was a nature park that had a nightly Penguin Parade. The tourists, and those of us who lived there and had visitors, would go out and sit in the dark, freezing cold wet weather and watch the penguins glide in to the shore. They stand up, then chatter to each other while they walk to their burrows in the dunes. As miserable as it could be, it was a fascinating thing to see.

So, I was still trying to clear off my desk and saw these petzvals lined up and it reminded me of the penguins. So, here is my Petzval Penguin Parade...

Notes to all lenses: Please PM or EMAIL only. All lenses are in the USA. Mamiya, cell phone, phone, etc, etc are obviously not included. Most of these have dirty glass. If you want me to clean it some before sending it, I will, but strongly suggest you learn how to do it. Once you have confidence in cleaning it, you can start goofing around with the glass to get more aberrations with them. These were all magic lantern lenses at one point and used, so expect cleaning wisps and small chips around the edges of the glass. I don't see many wisps, but don't guarantee they aren't there. These do not affect your photos at all. I don't see any separation on the front lenses, but if there is, it is minor and will also not affect anything. I have unscrewed all the glass and know they come apart in the rear. On the better made lenses, like the ones in the first photo, the front glass is often rolled into the brass and does not come out, so you clean it in the mount. Lenses with flip top lids - the 'lids' will come off. They either directly unscrew or can be unscrewed using a small slotted screwdriver. No flanges.

Shipping in USA: 1 lens: $8.50, for 2-3 lenses at the same time, $10.95; 3-8 lenses at the same time, $15. USPS money orders and Paypal ok. I ship to most countries but some of these are pretty heavy. $$ to APUG if sold here.

Once I get these off my desk, I'll be doing another 'Free Lens Library' posting, so if you can't afford to buy a petzval, I'll have one or two to loan in the US along with some other lenses for up to 8x10.

All measurements are approximate, image circles given are at infinity, and include degraded edges as the sharpness falls off.

Price: $125 each except #5, which is $95 and lens #8 which is $110

Lens 1: 6" focal length, 6" image circle, f3.9, 3 1/4" high, 2 1/2" diameter at threads.

Lens 2: 5" focal length, 5 1/2" image circle, f3.2, 3 1/2" tall, 2 1/2" diameter at threads

Lens 3: 6" focal length, 6" image circle, f3.7 3 1/2" tall, 2 1/2" diameter at threads

Lens 4: 7" focal length, 7" image circle, f3.5, 5 1/4: tall, 2 3/4" diameter at threads

Lens 5: 8 1/2" focal length, unknown image circle, approx f4, 5 1/2" tall, 2 1/2" diameter. The lid is not attached. The front lens mount on this will only screw in one thread or so before popping off. You'll need to tape it on there or something in order to use it.

Lens 6: 6" focal length, 5 3/4" image circle, f3.7, 3" tall, about 2" at the threads. This one looked swirly to me but is not as well made as the first 4 lenses.

Lens 7: 7" focal length, 7" image circle, f3.2, 4 1/2" tall, 2 1/2" diameter. This is cut for stops but none are included. To use it without stops, you'll need to cover the slit in the barrel. This gives a very nice image on the ground glass and would make a good portrait lens, IMO.

Lens 8: 9 3/4" focal length, unknown image circle, apprx f5, 4 1/4" tall, 2 3/4" diameter at threads.

2, 3, 4, 6, and now 7 are no longer available.

1, 5, and 8 are still available. Will consider offers on 5 and 8.

Only lonely #5 remains. It doesn't even have a Beatles song written about it, although 'Number Five, Number Five, Number Five' is better than most Katy Perry lyrics... It could be your photographic metal muse!

Give this poor sad lens a home... How about $50 + shipping?
