Ok, I have an extra inversion cap. You can pop the gear part out of the lid and with the cap you now have an inversion lid. I still think the rubber stopper in the geared lid is more practical since you can use the tank either way.

However, I now have a gearless lid and so I don't need that trade anymore...
To anyone else, unless they have changed the design significantly since the version I had, be prepared to break it while removing the gear...

Stone, I've never removed a gear, only added them to an existing lid without them (why I have a pair of extra caps). Sorry to see yours did not survive intact. I suspect you can pop them out from the back side. I certainly wouldn't use pliers to do the job if you wanted the gear to survive.
Am I reading it correctly that you had the red Jobo caps for the drums, but they didn't fit because the gear was installed?
