First off, let me say that this unit is officially untested. I saw it sitting in the local Goodwill and couldn't bear to see it orphaned like that. I've brought it here to find it a loving home...

All I can say is that when I plug it in and turn it on, it creates an electrical hum.

Unfortunately, I have no way of testing it. Sold "AS-IS".

$10 (OBO) + $11 shipping in continental US (USPS medium flat rate box). International welcome, Paypal preferred (gift option, you pay fee) and I'll pay the 3% to APUG.

Thanks,

bump.

I'm curious what ChrisPlatt's removed comment was.

Here's what Ian C has to say about this....

That Chromega B VS Power Supply is almost certainly in good working order. It’s nothing more than a 120V to 27V Sola constant voltage transformer. The power switch is the only moving part. If it hums it should be fine.

The only thing that can go wrong (assuming no lightning strike burned the magnet wire insulation) is that the electrolytic motor run capacitor in the voltage-stabilizing tank circuit might become leaky or shorted. In that case it will still work but not stabilize the output voltage.

The capacitor is easily tested and replacements can be had at places like Grainger Industrial Supplies. I found a Dayton capacitor at Grainger Industrial Supplies of those specifications priced at $3.90. Grainger’s number for the capacitor is #4UHA6. I think that this is the correct one for the Chromega B stabilized power supply.

As always, very helpful and thorough insight from Mr. C.

The recent "bump" thread reminded me to bump this. Hope it's not too often...

Very reasonably priced item; if you need it you'll be glad to find this!

bump.

I'd really like to sell this. Despite the initial uncertainty expressed in the initial post... it's going to work fine.
