This is a new Cooke XVa I purchased for large format photography. I am the only owner. The Copal #3 shutter was fitted by SK Grimes on a Sinar lensboard. Grimes also made additional lens caps. The only times this lens and its components have been outside the box were to install the shutter and to photograph it for this sale. Because I just had a spinal chord stimulator installed to deal with intractible pain, I sadly must let it go, as I waited a while for it. I can show you the $68,000 bill from UWMC for the implant, if you like. Accompanying the lens are some techical documents from Cooke discussing circles of confusion considerations and the technical performance of the lens. Detail photos are available. $3,400 firm.

I hope you don't take this the wrong way but unless you find someone here on APUG that is local and can come by your home to see the lens and purchase it in person I hope you understand that anyone would have a hard time shelling out $3400 to buy a lens from someone that just joined the forum and only has one post. Again please don't take this the wrong way, I fully understand you back problems as well; I have had one spinal fusion surgery and diskectomy in March 09 and am about to have a second on the same three vertebrae to fix the surgery that didn't work as it should have. My surgery ran over $100K just for the operation and hospital stay...

hi colin

the lens in the barrel new, cost 2500+ without the shutter, custom mounting to the shutter, the board or custom caps.
to someone buying one of these rare lenses, this is a good price, no matter who is selling it

hope both of you feel better!

I always wondered how an economy lens can cost more than the 3 lenses it replaces....

As the owner of one of these beauties, to whomever buys it you won't be disappointed. I love mine. Great lens! I wish you luck with your sale.

It was not any attempt to say the lens wasn't worth what was being asked, or that the lens is not beautiful and a perfect performer; I am sure it is all these things and more. I just wanted to make sure that "suetonius" understood that if he/she was not getting anyone to buy it, it was possibly because they have not been a member for very long and without having a track record as a "known" seller here on APUG that it might be the reason and that they should understand this is why, not because the item in question was over priced or not up to par. Just letting them know, not trying to be an ass or make any guesses about their person or product, I have no grounds for either.

I agree with you Sarge, not having a pic of it doesn't help matters either. No info on seller+ no pic= no sale here with me.

rick

the seller said photos are available ...
all the interested party has to do is email / ask ...

the "factory" photos of the lens can be found
on clive russ' website, he is an authorized US dealer ....

ic -

triples are often times now thought of budget lenses,
but back in the day they probably cost a fair amount,
this one, from the description on clive russ's website,
is corrected for color and from all accounts a real work of art.
( as one can see from the price  )

best of luck with your sale suetonius !

Hi: Did you ever sell this? Do you have a price without the shutter? I have a shutter already. What state\city are you in, in case I want to see it in person?

Thanks.

Until you shoot with one, you will never know the beautiful organic sharpness and dreamy falloff of the focus along with the near zero flare-- IMHO, to buy three lenses of this quality in shutters would cost at least the same. I own #154 and would never part with it either.
