So it's time to start clearing out some equipment and I have some Exakta gear in good condition that needs a new home. I started accumulating these several years ago with the intent to overhaul the shutters and get them 100% functional, but I've got too many other 35mm systems and have been shooting more LF these days. Neither camera shows any signs of abuse or improper storage, but it's common for the shutters to pinhole and need lubrication after so many years.
I also have Miles Upton's "Ultimate Exakta Repair Book" in new condition and Aki-Asahi shutter curtain cloth with ribbons, brand new.

I have a number of lenses also for sale in a separate Exakta ad, Part 2.

Add $10 for USPS Priority Mail shipping anywhere in the continental US (more for foreign shipping). If you buy 2 or more items (bodies, books or lenses), I will discount 5% off your total price (easier packing and shipping for me). I am also donating 3% of sales to APUG. PayPal payment only, please.

1. Exakta Varex VX version 3 body (~1956), marked "USSR Occupied" with prism finder. In excellent cosmetic condition with nice chrome and almost no paint loss (only on finder eyepiece), no dents or dings. No fungus, mold or any other nasty stuff and really clean inside and out. Leather is excellent with some small "Zeiss bumps" on the back. Prism is clear and bright, just a few dust specks on the screen. Mirror has a bit of coating loss on the bottom edge, but this is not visible in the VF. Film chamber is very clean and includes the take-up spool. All functions work correctly, including the slow-speed mechanism. I haven't tested the shutter speeds, but the shutter curtains have pinholes, so a shutter overhaul/curtain replacement is needed. This body appears to have had very little use over the past 60 years, so it's in much better condition that most others I've seen. This would be a really clean stylish shooter after a shutter overhaul. $65.00.

2. Exakta Varex VX version 1 body (~1951), with waist-level finder. Good cosmetic condition with a small amount of paint loss on some edges. No dents or dings. A few marks in the chrome on top of the WLF. No fungus, mold or any other nasty stuff and also clean inside and out. Leather in good condition, no Zeiss bumps but a few worn spots on the back door. Finder opens/closes smoothly and magnifier is clean and functional. Focusing screen is clean with no marks or scratches. Mirror has a bit of coating loss on the bottom edge, but this is not visible in the VF. Film chamber is clean and includes the take-up spool. All functions work correctly, except for the slow-speed mechanism which appears to be jammed. I don't see any pinholes in the curtains, but a shutter overhaul would probably be needed to get the slow speeds working. Lenses wobble a bit when mounted, so the inner bayonet may be worn. Easy to replace - just 4 screws and it's off. This one could be used as a parts body, but with a bit of work it should be fully functional. $40.00.

-- If you've never held one of these cameras, they really are beautifully made and built to last. These were the big "system" SLR for 35mm, long before the Nikon F was made.

3. "Ultimate Exakta Repair" book by Miles Upton. Softcover, spiral bound, 110 pgs. NEW condition, covers all steps needed to CLA bodies and overhaul/replace shutters for Exakta cameras. Excellent illustrations and step-by-step descriptions of each procedure. I don't know if Miles still sells these thru his web site, and I haven't seen any available on Amazon or eBay, so these are hard to find. $30.00.

4. "Exakta Cameras 1933-1978" book. Hardcover, 190 pgs. Great condition, no rips, tears or marks. $5.00

5. Aki-Asahi rubber-coated silk shutter curtain cloth and ribbons. BRAND-NEW, never used. This should be the correct cloth to replace the curtains on the Exakta bodies. $10.00

Update -

I will sell both Exakta bodies, the Ultimate Exakta Repair book and the Aki-Asahi shutter curtains all for $100.00 total, plus $10 shipping to CONUS. ("Exakta Cameras 1933-1978" is sold).

The bodies really are in very nice condition, and with the Repair book and curtains, would be an easy 1-2 day project for someone to get them 100% functional. These are really cool-looking cameras and deserve to be used rather than sitting in a box.

I've also reduced prices on the remaining lenses I have in another ad.
