Last fall I was fortunate enough to find a Technika V in great condition for a good price, and since Linhofs are pretty indestructible (even from former firefighters like me), I no longer need the Tech III I started large format with.

THE CAMERA: A Linhof Technika III 4x5 that I bought from a fellow Apugger several years ago, and used happily until I decided that I “needed” to upgrade. This camera is a workhorse, not a showhorse! It has the scars to show that it has been around the block, maybe even the world, a few times. As can be seen from the pictures, the leather is scuffed and scratched in many places, but except for one small corner of the front door, is intact and adhered. When I bought this camera one of the front door hinges was broken, so I bought a beater III, and had a camera repairman swap doors. The hinge now works fine, but the leather from the swapped door does not exactly match the rest of the camera. As I said, this is a workhorse. If you are looking for a pretty camera, keep on moving! The rangefinder housing is still attached to the camera but the door swap resulted in the rangefinder focusing hardware interfering with closing the door so it has been partially disassembled and does not work. A small screw or other part rattles around inside the rangefinder as a result of the disassembly. The revolving back that came with the beater camera is from a IV or V with tan leather and has some metal pitting on it, but I liked it better than the original so swapped them. The leather hood is separated from the lid about 1-1/2” as shown in the pictures. Ground glass is intact but it was too dim for my old eyes and I used a Beattie screen which I transferred to my V and which is NOT included in this sale.

All of these warts aside, this camera works great and was making negatives as good as my skill allowed when I stopped using it. I think the previous owner had new bellows installed. They look perfect, are supple, and do not leak. The front rise, bed drop, rearward tilt, and front swing and tilt all work fine, as does the rear movements.

ACCESSORIES: The camera came with a Technika Symmar f/5.6, 150mm convertible lens. The cable release attachment is missing and a piece of black paint floats around inside the lens. I never used it so I have no idea how good it might be. Also included are 4 lensboards: 2 technika boards drilled for Copal 1 shutters, 1 homemade board drilled for Copal 1 and 1 homemade board drilled for a Copal 0.

SPARE PARTS: The beater Tech III, with leather actually in better condition than the complete
camera. Bellows are ugly and probably leak. Front door from original camera with broken hinge, including front standard. Revolving back that came with the first camera; hood is badly separated from lid on one side. 2 ground glasses, 1 fresnel screen, all intact. Disassembled rangefinder parts, cam from lens.

This was a great first large format camera for me, and I offer it for sale with the confidence that it will be a good camera for someone else. $350 plus shipping, Paypal payment preferred. Based on a couple of completed ebay sales I think this is a fair price for the camera alone. I am including the parts at basically no charge because they are of no use to me. Please email or PM any questions. I have tried to describe the camera honestly and completely, but I want potential buyers fully informed. I have a couple more pictures than those posted that I can send directly. 3% of sale price to be donated to APUG if sold here.

That's a steal, Dan. Almost wish I was doing 4x5 still...
