For Sale: A Rare Leica I Model C 5 digit serial number 23438 1930 with a non-standardized 39mm lens mount . Starting with this model, Leitz implemented interchangeable lens. Each lens/body pair was adjusted separately by the factory. Approx 2000 cameras produced before the 39mm standardized lens mount became available 1931.
SPECS:
Lens: f/3.5, 50 mm Elmar iris diaphragm to f/18. Depth of field scale.
Shutter: Focal-plane speeded 1/20 - 1/500, B. Speeds are varied by delaying the second blind.
Construction: Vulcanite covered metal body.
Format: 36, 24 x 36 mm exposures on 35 mm cine film held in cassette, film is re-wound into cassette.
Focusing: Helical Infinity to 1 metre.
Attributes: Direct-vision (lens/lens) view-finder.
Auto-stop on film-advance. Film-advance tensions shutter. Exposure counter.
Serial Number: 23438 (1930)
This is the first Leica camera fitted with removable lenses. The earliest models were sold with their own lenses sets, because the distance between the mounting ring and the film plan was not standardized yet.; therefore, only the lenses modified for each body could fit it. These early models are very rare.
Body is clean for its age has a few minor scratches see photos, chrome parts very clean no brassing see photos except mushroom shutter button appears a piece of the chrome plating is worn off. missing the infinity body lock the two silver screws are there. has the lock on the lens mount. One screw missing front bottom left that holds the shutter assembly.
Front lens elements clean and clear. The rear element looks to be crackled OR needs good cleaning
f-stop ring moves freely and lens focusing moves freely.
Shutter is not accurate all speeds 1/30 to 1/200 sounds the same except 1/500 sounds a bit faster. Needs a cleaning. I placed a roll of film film in the camera, film advanced shutter hung up I removed the roll shutter was normal working fast at all speeds. I may have not loaded correctly. I believe these models need the Brass Leica loadable cartridge, the modern standard film cartridge may not fit properly. but didn't try again not to damage anything.
