#1: Graflex Speed Graphic 4X5 camera with barrel lens, focal plane shutter, spring back, 2 film holders, 4 film developing hangers. This was my first 4x5 camera, I purchased it used in 1971 while working at a small camera store in Nashville. I used it a great deal photographing around Middle and Eastern Tennessee. I have no idea how old it is, I would guess 40's or 50's era. This is the model with the cloth focal plane shutter. You wind up the curtains and the tensioner and using the chart on top of the camera you can determine the appx speed. I sure the springs have lost some of the springiness but it still works. I did use the FP a few times with success but I found it not as easy as using a lens with shutter. This camera has the spring back, the ground glass is intact and is a plain GG, no fresnel. The camera uses the 4X4 boards. I have the lens mounted on a somewhat crude home-made board, it is light tight. No viewfinder or strap. Also missing is the distance scale on the focus rack, I always used the GG to focus. The rangefinder is not working and is missing parts. The covering is intact but has lots of burnishes, marks, scratches from being carried around in a backpack and the fact that it is 60+? years old. The lens is an uncoated Ilex Paragon Anastigmat 6 1/2 in f/4.5 SR# is 0489. It is in good condition for its age, the glass is clear, no fungus but it does have some cleaning marks. The lens stops to f/32. The original bellows is in fair condition with taped corners, it is light tight but ugly. This would be a good camera for the person who doesn't want to spend much to experience Large Format, but be fore-warned, LF is addictive. I'm reducing my collection so this is sold as is with no returns. USA sales only. Payment by PayPal or USPS money order. Email with questions. $100.00 plus shipping of your choice, I would estimate $20.00, it's heavy.
Camera #2: Graflex Crown Graphic 4X5 camera with Schneider Xenar 150mm f/4.5 lens in Compur shutter. This is my 2nd 4x5 camera that I purchased about 1975 while working at a different camera shop in Nashville. This one I stripped down to save weight and make it more compact, I removed the viewfinder and rangefinder. This camera has the Grafloc back so you can use the roll film backs on it. The exterior covering is intact but well worn with lots of rub marks, scratches. Please look at the photos for the condition. The Grafloc back is well worn with paint loss, pitting, scratches and a small dent in the focus hood cover. The lens is a hybrid, meaning the shutter is not original to the lens elements. The elements were purchased off Ebay about 10 years ago and the shutter came from a junk box at the Huntsville Photo Flea-market about 7 years ago. The shutter is ugly but works most of the time, the slow speeds hang up most of the time. The shutter does need servicing since it is very worn. Shutter speeds are B, 1, 1/2, 1/5, 1/10, 1/25, 1/50, 1/100, 1/200 and it stops to f/32. The glass is in very very good condition, no marks, scratches or fungus and throws a most excellant image. This would be a good camera for the person who doesn't want to spend much to experience Large Format, but be fore-warned, LF is addictive. Email with questions. $175.00 plus shipping of your choice, I would estimate $20.00, it's heavy.
