For Sale FS: Fujinon S 300mm f/5.6 Lens

For sale is a Fujinon S 300mm f/5.6 Lens. There is some confusion about the coverage of this single coated lens. I believe it is the shuttered version of the Fujinon barrel lens, which is a Tessar design. The Copal 3S shutter has 10 blades, making for a much rounder aperture than the modern Copal 3 shutter with its 5 blades. It would make for a great portrait lens on 8x10 or 10x12 (where the image would be focused closer). The image circle is 343mm and filter size is 82mm. There are a number of fine scratches on both front and rear elements. The lens should be shaded with a compendium hood so that direct sunlight does not hit the lens surface. The Copal 3S shutter is working properly, and a flange is included.

I just checked and the Copal 3 shutter does indeed only have 5 shutter blades. However, the aperture/iris has 7 blades making it somewhat better.

And, as you said, the 3S has 10 aperture blades.

All Copal shutters have 5 shutter blades but iris.or aperture, blades vary from 7 to 10.

Some more info on the 300 S

This "series" is the oddest for Fuji, and appears to have had only one lens -- a 300mm. It appeared about the time of the Fujinar-SC series, but is marked in millimeters instead of centimeters. In addition, it is marked "FUJINON", not "FUJINAR". It is a Tessar type lens in a Copal #3 shutter -- like the other Fujinar-SC lenses -- but there never was a 300mm lens designated "Fujinar-SC", for some reason. Because it was a Tessar lens, it was different in design from the Fujinon W series lenses, and it probably was the first large format lens made by Fuji to carry the "FUJINON" label. It is possible that other Fujinon S lenses were made, but not likely.

I was speaking only about the aperture blades, not the shutter blades.
I was thinking of Copal 0 and 1 shutters when I wrote 5 blades. The very last version of Copal 0 and 1 shutters made for Nikon have 7 aperture blades and are marked with an S in a circle. Copal 3 shutters have 7 aperture blades.

The filter size of this lens is 82mm, as mentioned in the ad.
