Well, if you missed out on Jim's Seroco portrait petzval, here's your chance to redeem yourself... And save a few hundred dollars as well.
This lens is a Eoscope Portrait Lens from the Montauk Camera Co, which made lenses for G Gennert in NYC, a large retailer. See Lens VM p176.
Focal length is about 9", f5 lens. 27 oz. Approx 4" tall, about 3" diameter at threads so should fit a 4" or larger board. No flange.
Lens is marked 5x7 portrait lens, which means it will cover that easily with no aberrations. If you want to try and get some aberrations, you would use this on a whole plate or 8x10 camera. It seems to barely cover my whole plate at infinity with maybe a little darkening on the edges.
The rear elements are each encased in there own metal capsule. These screw together then have a small screw holding them in place. I've only seen detail like that on the much more expensive Ross lens that I have.
There is an iris but it is very temperamental and I have left it open at f5. If you unscrew the front element, there is a retaining ring that can be removed if you want to a) try to fix the iris or b) make the lens faster. If you totally remove the iris part, this becomes an even faster f4.3 lens.
Has some haze over the front which, I see from a thread on LFPF, sometimes happened to the old glass and actually led to the idea of coating lenses to reduce flare. So, it is unlikely it will bother you any and may actually improve the performance if you shoot with glare.
Other obvious problems - the front of it is very dented for some reason but it doesn't affect the glass or the ease of unscrewing the element. The glass has normal and expected cleaning wisps, but some haze as mentioned.
$200 plus $12 shipping & insurance in the USA. Paypal ok, but my dog prefers USPS money orders because the tellers give her treats when we deposit them... % to apug if sold here.
