I've got a spare L1200 / CLS500 that I'm looking to sell. I'm not so deluded to think that these are worth what they once were, but it's a dang fine enlarger so even if you already have a 4x5 enlarger you should junk it and upgrade to this ;-) The basic enlarger is complete and fully functional, including the CLS500 color head, which of course can also do variable contrast B&W by setting the filters just so. Overall it's in remarkably good condition - great baseboard, column, head, all the controls work, etc. with the following notes:

-- There's a little bit of surface rust on the focusing guide rail, but just on the part past where the lens stage goes, which I guess is why it was able to get surface-rusty. See one of the later pics, it's clearly visible.

-- The plastic on two of the Femoneg mask adjustment knobs is broken, but of course they still work - this is also clearly visible in one of the pics.

-- The Femoneg carrier comes with glass only, no masks, and the glass is not perfect. Also, the upper mask/glass latch is missing so it's held in with tape. (This is how I got it, I swear!) The latch is identical to the ones used to hold in large format lensboards, so I bet a repair could be made with one of those parts if you wanted.

Oh, the included Femobox is the 4x5 one, so you can do all formats - you'd only need to get another Femobox if you wanted to shorten your needed exposure times with 35mm, for instance.

I'd like to get $500 for it. I'm north of Chicago and could help in transporting it if you're in the area. I can't even imagine trying to disassemble this to make it shippable, but if you're within a state or two of here let's figure out some way to get it from me to you. Don't pass up this chance to get an amazing enlarger!

It's a little colder in the winter than you're used to, but not a bad place!

I wouldn't mind the cold winters, but my wife would hate it. So, moving to Chicago is not an option, unfortunately!

I guess you'll have to disassemble, pack and ship this enlarger to Brazil.

(It's a joke! The shipping costs would be almost the same as what you're asking for the enlarger!)

Please, anyone, buy this enlarger before I do something stupid! :D

Cheers,
Flavio

Man, I really want this.
Unfortunately, I am in the Atlanta area.
Sigh...

I also collect pinball machines, which are even harder to buy and sell from afar. We often use a "collector bucket brigade" to get them across country, any chance you can set something like that up? I can probably find a pinball collector to get it over to Michigan soon, but that doesn't really get it all that much closer to Georgia.

Hi Duncan,

How long of drive would you say from Hyde Park?

Thanks,
Jeff

Well it's the Chicago area, so that depends on traffic - anywhere to anywhere is either 30 minutes or 4 hours ;-)

I work in Northbrook, right off of I-94, so I'd be happy to bring it to work if you wanted to run up here some weekday and check it out - it's about 30 miles/40 minutes from Hyde Park.

I'd even consider running it all the way to your door for like $50 more, if it could be done really early on a weekend so I could avoid traffic. I hate traffic.

Thanks,
Duncan

Wow, good idea, and great offer.
Unfortunately, I don't have any experience in this type of moving things about.

I can help with the missing latch & screws when somebody buys this enlarger.

Even though it already had a new home, I hadn't delivered it yet, so I went ahead and ate the cost to buy these from Paul - and some nice knobs he had too! Shipped quickly, and everything fit perfectly. Here's a picture of the new knobs installed:

The original knobs are formed around some knurling on the shafts, so getting the remnants off is a matter of cracking/squishing them off with Vise-Grips. Then the new knobs slip on and get held in place with setscrews.
