Canon EF 50mm f/1.2L with hood. $1,160 shipped.
Overall excellent cosmetic condition. There is very little minor barrel wear that does not go through to the metal.
Glass has zero problems. It is like new.
Focusing scale window has a spiderweb crack caused by a collision with the bottom of another camera when I was shooting a wedding (had both around my neck). It doesn't go through and the scale is still readable (though the teeny weeny scales on AF lenses are pretty useless anyhow).
There is a noticeable amount of internal dust that may be objectionable to some on general principle, but I promise you it makes no difference in the pictures. I could have taken it in to have it cleaned out, but the thought of spending money to have a so-called technician pull the elements out and hopefully put them back together the right way always freaked me out more than the dust did, especially on a lens that I shoot wide open a lot.
This lens has been my primary lens for my digital shooting and has gone practically everywhere with me (which explains the dust that crept inside). I bought it to serve as the digital version of my favorite workhorse lens, the FD 55mm f/1.2 S.S.C. The L lens outperforms the S.S.C. lens IMO. It is a real workhorse that will take care of some serious shooting situations, and it is built like a Sherman tank. I got it shortly after it was introduced, though I purchased it from a friend, so I am technically the second owner. I only have the lens and hood, no box or instructions.
I am selling this to raise money for a Nikon digital camera. I hate to see it go. It's a stunning piece of glass, and I have a lot of sentiment attached to it. I have, after all, probably shot a good 15,000 pictures with it. But I have decided that the backward lens compatibility of Nikon, and their tiering of camera models makes much more sense to me. I need a new digital camera anyhow, so now is the time to make the switch.
One more thing: All the writing on the entire lens – and the red L-series ring – has been blacked out with a Sharpie.
If anyone is seriously interested (as in want to buy it, don't just want to see pictures of it for your health) I will set up my product shooting area and take nice macro photos of it for you, though not till this weekend.
Price is firm for now. I know what I can get for it on E-Bay if I need to go that route.
