For Sale FS: A Quartet of Folmer Graflex Cameras

For sale, a quartet of rare and unusual Folmer & Schwing, and Graflex cameras (its time to thin my herd). In the photo below, from left to right, a Graphic No 0, an RB Series C, Military Pacemaker Speed Graphic, and RB Cycle Graphic (Folmer & Schwing Manufacturing NYC). Serial numbers (approximate) on the first is under 96000 (ca 1920), on the second 172000 (ca 1930), the third 904700 (ca 1954), and the last 5900 and change (ca something pre 1900 perhaps). The C, of course, comes with the Cooke f2.5. The Cycle comes with a 8 1/2" Dagor, serial in the 140000s. The Pacemaker is ex-military, and also ex Interior Department. It comes with a very battered Haliburton case with military markings. The Cook elens aperture works perfectly. The front cell unscrews easily. I couldnt remove the rear one, or the lens body from the mount, but I didnt try very hard.

The camera seems to work, even on the slower shutter speeds, and the curtain looks good. Other than the leather covering, I note two other issues with the camera. One, the little red window is missing. The other is the deceptive angle mirror is cracked and part of it missing. Both of these are easily fixed. More photos on Flickr.

I've had this camera on display. Never tried to use it. I doubt the bellows are light tight but they could easily be "painted" internally on the corners if you wanted to use it. The only thing I really see wrong with it is the brass badge on the bottom of the case that identifies the model is missing. The lens is in good shape but the shutter is gummed up. The Military Pacemaker Speed:

Its been ridden hard but its not bad. The shutter lever was replaced at some point, and its binding up a bit, particularly on the return. The shutter though does seem to work pretty well otherwise. Getting the front standard pulled out from the rear rails to the front ones is a bit fiddly but the rails themselves are fine. Rangefinder is contrasty but I dont know what its aligned for or how well it works. It includes the matching Haliburton case with military markings (and a lot of tape residue and Interior department mailing labels - cool history I suppose). Photos on Flickr

The shutter seems to work well. It's very clean, except for the verdigris you see in the photos. The handle is in good shape (not that I would trust an 80 year old handle). There's a small tear in one of the front cover curtains. The Cooke lens aperture works smoothly. The front cell unscrews easily. I didnt want to risk damaging anything so I never removed the lens body from the mounting ring, or the rear cell from the body. There's a little haze at the back of the lens (that might come clean if you want to take the lens out to clean it properly) but I don't really think it matters. More photos on FLickr
