For Sale FS - 3 brass lenses for 8x10 and whole plate

I have three lenses here, all of which cover 8x10. The two in shutter are rated as whole plate (6 1/2" x 8 1/2") but they cover my 8x10 at infinity and I can still see lots of rear glass through the clipped corners.

I take USPS money orders and will take Paypal as a 'gift' or if you pay all the fees. If you buy more than 1 at the same time, I'll knock off $5 per lens. Prices are for US shipping only. Overseas shipping would be additional.

#1 - B&L triplet, 12", approx f5.4, $85 shipped. Glass is in good usable shape as is, with some dirt and some crud that probably should be soaked off. Weighs about 2 pounds with the extra barrel and flange, about 1 pound for the lens tube alone. About 5" high, flange is about 4" in diameter

#2 - Gundlach Rapid Convertible with 10 1/2"/17"/23" lengths , f8 max aperture, $90 shipped. Working shutter (the speeds sound different from each other but I don't have a tester). There IS a flange included.

Lens says '6 1/2 x 8 1/2' on the barrel, but it does cover 8x10 easily. The shutter says Autex but under the scale, it says Wollensak. Unsure of who made the glass. Glass is good with some dirt, etc. You can fire by hand or with a squeeze ball. I have a hose that fits but not a rubber ball The hose will be included.

#3 - Conley Triple Focus Rapid Rectilinear, 10 1/2"/17/23" lengths,f8 max aperture, $85 shipped. Again, the barrel says '6 1/2" x 8 1/2" but it covers 8x10. A flange IS included.

There is a working iris but NOT a working shutter.

According to someone who knows, this is top quality Wollensak glass made for Conley/Sears back in the good ole days. For those too young to remember, Sears used to be THE retail monolith known for selling everything under the sun with top quality goods, many under their own brand names. Sears owned a share of Conley for a while and eventually bought it out completely.

The glass has two pin point sized marks and needs a little cleaning. Excellent image on the ground glass. Aperture moves smoothly.

I have a slightly different Conley lens - I thought so much of it, I paid about $400 to Grimes to mount it in a new shutter. The glass is excellent.

I'm pretty sure that I was told the Conley Triple Focus was a re-branded Wollie Velostigmat lens but I can't find the email, so I didn't claim that in the listing. But it is a nice, affordable, usable lens. Richard.

Will the Gundlach use a standard shutter release? How does the hose work?

As far as I know, that kind of connection only works with a ball & tubing to fire, but I honestly don't know if you can get a standard release to work. It seems unlikely to me. You can fire the shutter by using the top lever up by where it says 'OTB'.

The ball & tubing works like on a packard shutter. The ball kind of looks like the ones they use to pump up the wrap on your arm when they check your blood pressure. You can probably buy one at the drugstore.

The ball's point is shoved into the tubing which is then pushed over the connection on the shutter. Cock the shutter as you would with any kind. Then you squeeze the ball and the shutter fires. There's not much to it.

Surely someone can use these two? I've had the B&L triplet on my camera two nights at sunset, and the rendition on the glass was terrific. You're not going to be disappointed when you use it. Haven't used the Gundlach, but I've had others from Gundlach Manhattan Optical and they were excellent performers.

Make me a reasonable offer. They need a new home!

To expand on your comment about the Gundlach lens in Autex shutter (made by Wollensak) for sale, see this:
From one of the Wollensak catalogs I found on Camera Eccentric,
"All Wollensak shutters are operated by wire release, though should a bulb and tube be desired a 'bulb attachment' can be supplied, which screws into the socket release and to which the bulb and tube is attached."
I took apart my Conley Automatic to confirm this a few weeks ago. While I don't have the wire release for the shutter, I was able to see how it worked.

Come to think of it... what is the inner diameter of the front and rear threads on the Autex shutter? Or does it have a size/ shutter number associated with it? I might be interested if I can use it to replace my Regno with missing innards.

I have the 5x7 version of the Gundlach convertible in an older shutter - it's a nice RR type lens.

looks to me like the lens threads are about 43mm, but I only have a ruler...

Do you mean that the plug that accepts the rubber tubing just screws off, or did you have to open the shutter body to remove it?

I think you'll be quite pleased with the Gundlach. Here's a frame from my 5x7 lens onto 4x5. I printed it 8x10 over the weekend, cropping down to around 70% of the frame - it's a keeper, I think.

Nice shot. I took one look and thought JERSEY. It reminded me a lot of when I used to live in Hoboken.

Since the shutter works on the Gundlach, I think I might use it for some shots of the grandkids. They won't sit still long enough to get decent stuff without a shutter...

NY Harbor - Brooklyn Bridge in the background. If you haven't been in Hoboken recently, it's changed a lot in the last 15 years or so.

I've never tried it for portraits. It's a RR so should have a nice look, not too sharp, not too soft. I speed tested an Autex on a Seneca once - wasn't too bad for a 100 year old shutter.
