I am assounded at the condition of the Volvo, most especially because I have seen the on-street parking techniques in San Francisco
...bump a car forward/back to make more room to park MY car!

My wife's bumpers, the 'plastic' painted the same color as the metal, is filled with divots made by screw heads on other people's bumpers...she parked every day out in the direction of the SF Zoo in the avenues, to teach kindergarten, not even in a heavily frequented shopping district!

The 1800 is fitted with commercial plates. I remember when getting them in 1984 the lady at the DMV asked me why I would want to park such a beautiful automobile in a loading zone. This is truly an automobile rather than a car.

The commercial plates (and the 1800 boot) were handy for delivering large photographic prints and for offloading gear for a shoot.
SF meter maids are strict about the 30min loading limit so there was never really much chance in getting bashed as time parked was short.

And speaking of short, the ES is only 172 inches 'short'. Easy to fit not only when parking - but also in a garage where it has always retired to at night.

Early models had the B20E engine with Bosch D-Jetronic fuel injection and a revised camshaft, and produced 130 bhp
Later the B20F engine, 1960's models a B18 engine.
Standard coil and distributor.
Clean running engine required no smog equipment other than a crankcase breather.

Factory suspension is very much like the (stodgy) sedans however this one has been upgraded and no longer is a slouch nor stodgy:
Koni shocks plus competition coils at the rear and sway bars front and rear.

Steering is fine and has 195/65-15 tyres fitted.
I drove one with 225/45 and it cornered well at speed but took much more effort to to parallel park lacking power steering.

Not much else sold in the states that compared. In Europe of course there was the Reliant Scimitar plus Jensen Interceptor & GT models
