This single-coated lens has very nice glass with no obvious cleaning marks. There are a few internal dust specks, and the usual mild Schneideritis in a few spots. Theres a small group of tiny dent marks on the side of the front barrel about halfway between the front of the lens and the shutter; they don't break the paint, and wouldn't cooperate when I took the photos. It looks like someone clamped or held the barrel with a wrench for some reason. Theres a small slightly out-of-round area on the rear rim, but no other dents or dings. I'm unable to test the front filter threads as I don't own a 77mm filter, but they appear round. Both cells unscrew smoothly from the shutter. The original caps and an abused-but-functional retaining ring are included.
The Prontor Press 0 shutter has speeds from 1 sec to 1/125 sec plus B and T. It sounds a little slow on 1 second, the other speeds sound about right. Ive given it regular exercise since I bought it, even though Ive never used it beyond testing. Focusing is done by setting the shutter to T and tripping it it remains open until its been tripped again. The aperture iris has 10 blades.
Schneider says this lens has a 100° field of view at f/22 for an image circle of 288mm. I've seen claims here and on other fora that it actually just covers 8x10. I don't have an 8x10, so can't offer an opinion, but it covers on my wholeplate Seneca with some movements.
This is really quite a nice lens. I bought it to build a 5x7 or wholeplate Hobo-style camera. I've concluded, though, that I don't really see the world in superwide, and I just have too many lenses in what my wife calls the lens museum, so I'd like to turn this one into some Lodima paper. Lacking the requisite magic wand, I offer it here for sale.
