This is a gorgeous Ross portrait petzval. If you haven't used a Ross, you're in for a treat. These are very substantial feeling and excellent performers. The front element alone on this probably weighs in at more than your friendly digicam at 13oz. For doing wet plate or serious petzval portraiture, this lens could come be just what you need. The lens is a little too long of a focal length for what I need on my whole plate, so I'm going to sell it and look for a shorter one (plus buy some film in the Ilford annual film run).

Focal length is 12" measured from the cut for waterhouse stops; Approx f4.3; . Height 6 1/2"; diameter at threads is 4"; Weight is 56oz (3 1/2 lbs); Glass approx 84mm in diameter; serial number: 10259. According to Jason's list, the serial number dates it from the 1860's. No stops are included. Coverage is at least 8x10.

Each of the three pieces of glass comes in its own metal capsule (see photo #2), another sign of the quality and attention that went into this lens. The front and rear capsules can be swapped. You can also remove one or both rear lens if you want to experiment.

Known flaws: The glass has some cleaning wisps, but nothing that is going to affect using it. If you look at the 3rd photo, you can see that some of the 'teeth' are missing on the barrel for the focus knob to run across. The knob does work overall, but obviously will skip in missing teeth. The sunshade/hood is not exactly round. There is what appears to be a little tape residue on the barrel.

There is no flange BUT, I asked Scott ('Scott--' on LFPF 'bliorg' on APUG) to make a lens board for this lens. The beautiful aged walnut board is cut to the thread size, so you can screw this lens directly into the board if you want and not use a flange at all. The board is 6x6, so should be ready to go for a 2D, Eastman View #2, or similar camera.

The board IS included if you can use it.

Also included: insured priority shipping in the USA. Overseas +$20 and I'll ship anywhere that I can send it priority int'l, insured for the full amount.

Price: $645 SHIPPED as mentioned. Paypal ok, USPS money orders preferred my dog. The tellers give her treats when we make deposits... $$$ to APUG if sold here.
