Welcome.
Wondered if anyone was interested in doing a frozen film shoot in some interesting area? Hocking Hills, Nelson's Ledges, Cuyahoga National Park, The Flats, River Front area in Cincinnati, the Cincinnati Train Museum, (they hid it in Kentucky)

Always good to get out in the snow and ice and capture some beauty. Who is interested and where might be a good place to go? Jan or Feb 2018

My schedule is usually unpredictable until a day or two before something, but I'd like to be able to make it. I haven't been to Cuyahoga in a few years and I've still not been to Hocking Hills or Nelson's Ledges.

I’d be interested if I can get enough warning and nothing at work gets in the way at short notice.

Thats great. I too have to "read the crystal ball" about the future. Just enjoy photography in the cold. Everything is somuch slower and deliberate.
Will keep the thread alive and see what we can plan up.

Lee look forward to whatever eventuates. I'm typically used to being out in the hot weather being from Oz. However it was my winter alpine hiking in the Victorian mountains where both my di****l still and movie cameras told me on the screen they were too cold to work that drove me back to manual film cameras. I'd like to experience the much colder Northern USA winters to see how my gear fairs and to learn what bad practices I have and what I need to do better.

Andy,
Thanks for chiming in. Hope to find a wonderful cold experience for all.
Last time out my Hassy 500c/m rear shutter froze up. Lenses had cla but not that body. My dad's TLR has been CLAed recently and my M2 Leica has as well. So I think i'll be packing light this trip.

Will be ramping up after Christmas.

Hi Lee, I am generally available, and I am interested. Would prefer not the Flats, but just about anywhere else.

Hi Bethe, I will let you know when something comes up. I will be following this geographical post again. Will this be your opportunity to see Hocking Hills???

Would really like to find a time that works for all so we can have a meetup. It's been way too long!
Yes!

Is Cuyahoga an easy enough drive for everyone? I know I can make it there in about 3 hours or less, which makes it possible to do a day trip rather than staying over. That makes it a little easier for me.

I am pretty sure I can manage that with relative ease and the rest of my family can visit friends in Akron.

For me near Columbus, it's a little further than Hocking Hills, but not so much that it's an issue. Besides, I've never been to Cuyahoga, so it's an opportunity!

And I'd be willing to carpool ...

Back online again. Holidays were great and bitter sweet. Traveled to Florida (anything but frozen there) to check on my mother in the nursing home. It was a blessing that she knew who I was most of the time. Met with other family members there too. Came back to find it snowing.

Was given a first hand report from a friend who went to Hocking Hills this week. Nicely frozen over, waterfalls frozen in time. Will see what see can do there, always good info on that area at hockinghills.com (I believe)

Still some interest in the Cuyahoga area. Will give John and Dolly a call and see how they are doing and if they can suggest anything up there.

Glad there is still interest in getting out in the cold.

So here is what I know so far. Sue (wife) and I are going to check out the sights along Lake Erie this weekend 16, 17 & 18 Feb. We are staying in Marriott Westlake and doing some photography along the lake and. At this point we probably will travel east of the city and make our way back west on Friday. We may reverse our course and travel west and make our way east back to Westlake on Saturday. Some stops along the way will be river inlets, parks, Flats, light houses etc.

We may have missed peak times of really devastating snow. This Weds and Thursday will see temps warm enough to rain. This will certainly prove very icy in the mornings on lake access areas, but give a realism to light houses and decaying iron bridges and such.

Still considering a trip to hocking hills, awaiting the next snow weekend. February is not done with us yet.

Since none of my 4x5 lenses like the cold this year, never had a single CLA on any of them yet, I will take two cameras that have been services. Rollei and my M2 Leica.

I'm not sure how familiar you are with Westlake, so you may already know this...

You'll be close to the Promenade, a "pedestrian mall," which may give some photo opportunities. They'll have a giant chessboard outside, and sometimes have a fire going nearby. On the North side of Detroit Road, North of the Promenade, they tore down an old Kmart, and I think construction of a new building is still underway if you like construction photography.
You will also be close to Bay Village, and Huntington Beach Reservation is nice - though may not be as picturesque as the beaches closer to Cleveland.
You can dip into Rocky River Reservation - a nearby river valley that passes through many cities in the area.
Traveling West into Avon Lake you can stop at Miller Road Park, which is a rather small beach, and close to "industrial" buildings like an electric plant and water treatment plant.
South of Avon Lake is the city of Avon, and they have Miller Nature Preserve. It's relatively new, and not grand or terribly interesting, but it's a nice small-town attraction.
South of Westlake is North Olmsted - Rocky River Reservation goes through it, and they also have Bradley Woods. Not spectacular, just a nice little park.

Thanks for this information. So much has changed since I lived in the west side of Cleveland in the late 70s. I was traveling so much that I really never explored the area much.
Been to Miller Road park, even stopped there with one of John & Dolly's gathering up there once.

We think Sunday when we return we will go west till we can pick up Rt 68 and drop down the middle area of Ohio farmlands for the way back.
