g'day there Sam B. & a hello from Thornbury! These Melburnians come out of the woodwork don't they? Nice to know others in town persevering with film.

I've visited Melbourne a few times. Does that count ?

Maybe I should post an ad in the Sydney newspapers to try and rustle up some more Sydney-siders to even up the score a little?

Enjoy the time on APUG, we all do!

Regards
Glenn

I've been to Victoria several times, but Melbourne only once, so I'm sure that doesn't count. The last time I met up with Kevin and Nige it was in Ballarat - it was raining hard that day, so we spent the evening at a pub.

OldBikerPete, are you in fact an "old biker"? My main form of transport is a Kawasaki ZZR-1100. Motorcyles and photography often seem to go together for some unknown reason.
blokeman, I am just up the road in Coburg, though I often say I live in Brunswick (if I am trying to impress someone - it sounds more inner-city).
Anyway better go and start up the machines a & do some work.

Samuel, my experience is that cameras and bikes don't travel too well, unless in a tankbag wrapped in something soft.

Pete, does ride a bike and so do I, both of us have been riding for all of our adult lives.

Yeah! Been riding almost every day since November 1967.
Current ride is a 1989 BMW K100RT ex police.
Mick is the founding president of the BMW MCC of Vic.

You are obviously riding the wrong bike.

I carry all of my LF gear and medium format with tripods locked in my bike.

I do find dirt roads a bit of a challenge though.

Ex Police bike. Does that mean people keep out of your way a bit? Iv'e always thought that would be cool ride around on an ex police bike, with all the paniers etc. I do find tripods and camera gear doesn't necessarily travel too well on a bike, and leathers and helmet not too comfortable to go walking in, esp. in the summer. But I have never had a practical bike with lockable paniers. Although a bloke pulled up next to me the other day on an old BMW with the radio on, and for the first time ever I thought yeah, I should get a BMW with paniers and a radio! I really must be getting old.

They do start to get out of the way - until they realise that the bike is repainted duck-egg metallic blue and the rider is wearing a bright red coat!
I find that the bike only gets me part of the way to my photo spot and then I have to walk, so I've bought a small backpack on eBay, filled it up with foam rubber from Clark Rubber and then cut out pockets for all my gear. My tripod is in a special bag with a shoulder strap. So all my LF gear is carried on my back on the bike - only about 8Kg total, so no biggie.
My 35mm gear (now replaced with a Canon 20D) was carried in a tank bag filled with foam rubber ..... (see above).
I bought the K100 because I want to tour with my lover and she's middling height with long legs and the BMW's were the only bikes available that are comfortable for her.
If you ever get hard panniers, always lock them - even when they're empty. They tend to open spontaneously otherwise.

It's a small mini-lab I took over in a South - Eastern suburb. Now in retrospect I can think of much better things I could have done with my money, but it seemed like a good idea at the time! Live & Learn I guess. I also missed the photographic flea-market, was on a long weekend so I was away, hope to make it next time.

The equipment I use is Noritsu, which IMO is the best Mini-Lab equipment. I still have an analogue printer, a Noritsu 2611 which was the last analogue model made by Noritsu. It's perfect for printing films, but I am currently grappling with how to upgrade to digital (which has become an absolute necessity) without spending a small fortune.

Samuel,

Welcome from the Mornington Peninsula...

I went along to Camberwell for the market.. Got some film and an old tailboard camera that i'm trying to figure out how to use.

I shoot mostly in b&w with a Pentax ME Super and various other cameras... My Zeiss Super Ikonta is probably my favourite.

Cheers,

Ivan

I did really well at Camberwell. I walked in with a mental list of four things I really wanted (but didn't expect to find) and walked out with three of them. Top of the list was a 4x5 grafmatic for a graflex back (not the graflok) and in the first ten minutes I found a stall with three of them for $25 each. It is my favourite way to spend a Sunday morning and I wish it was on more than twice a year.

I went to Camberwell with the possibility of picking up an enlarger for a budding film enthusiast.

I managed to pick up a tiny Durst colour enlarger with a Minolta Rokkor 50mm lens for $40.00.

Having just come in from the darkroom after calibrating the colour head for multigrade, the new owner is over the moon at what she has.
