Welcome aboard APUG!

I'm also a lover of the Hebrides, although I don't have anything much to show photography-wise! All of the work in my APUG portfolio (see link below) is taken in the Scottish Highlands however.

Cheers,
Gavin

Hebridean welcome

Hi Gavin
You must go to the Outer Hebrides - go straight to Tarbert on the Isle of Harris, First Fruits Tea Room. In the summer I'm usually there. Then take the road to Huisnish, at the end of a windy, switchback, rocky road. It's the best beach in the world.

.. apart from Traigh Mhor beach here in Tolsta . And of course An Lanntair Arts Centre/bar/cafe where they often have B&W photees on show in the gallery. A recent show was Ness Remains including the work of Angus Mackintosh

I'll know where to find you then! We've got friends in Laxay on Lewis, but it's been a while since I was last up.

The 'Ness Remains' exhibition previously mentioned looks great on the artists website, would love to see the prints.

Cheers,
Gavin

PS- my favourite beach is Sango Beag on the North Coast, a few miles east of Durness...! :D

Hi Gavin - yes they do have some wonderful exhibitions at An Lanntair-saw one last year from the very famous b+w photographer who took pics in the Hebrides from about the 1960s to 70s - so well known the grey matter can't remember his name. :confused:I had my first major exhibition at the Royal Photographic Society in Bath in March this year.:smile:Monica

Very impressed you had an exhib in RPS Bath Monica. The Octagon was where my parents used to go to dances then I remember going to the film society there - tis my home town.

Wylie - yes, he's the one.
It took about 6 months of planning to get the pics ready. Most were my Hebridean people, just a handful of others. A lady from Molesey mounted them beautifully for me - I couldn't face slicing up so many mounting boards! The MD of Harman Technology (Ilford) came to the Private View along with the Mayor of Bath and Wells and Deans kindly supplied shortbread and oatcakes - very Scottish - on which to munch. We had a good time and the exhibition ran for a month.

Welcome Monica.
Hi spiral city - how is your Christmas going over there? Taken any pictures today?I spent a couple of hours this morning sorting through black and white photos taken on an old Olympus Trip camera that a friend gave me and sticking them into an old-fashioned album that I was given for Christmas.I really enjoy picture-taking with this camera - a totally new dimension (my normal camera is a Nikon F90x) However the lens fixing is a bit dodgy,it's become rather wobbly so it's gone into camera hospital to be mended.

The weather over here on Isle of Lewis is a bit foul at the moment and was yesterday too. Christmas Eve was magical so went to the beach with the Perkeo at 11pm and did some [not very sucessful] moon-light shots. Today trolled over to Dal Beag on the west side where the waves were tremendous! Glad to be home in front of the peat fire now

It sounds great Schlapp.Oh to be there now despite the grotty weather. Has the Stornoway Gazette written a piece about you and your photography yet? They do seem to give the arts a good push on a regular basis.

Thanks for the message Ian and a Happy Boxing day to you. Have you done anything photographic today?Monica:smile:

Hi Monica. No new work to report: I've been making space for 2008 by shredding work prints, polaroids and excess negatives. But when that's done I've got a massive printing backlog to catch up on which should be nice. And happy day-after-Boxing Day

Nothing about me thank goodness. But I did get a picture in there - from film and the KOWA 6mm - a picture of Aileen Mcglynn on one of our beaches whom I coached to Paralympic gold medal in Athens - she rode the tandem with Ellen Hunter.
Goodish weather today - Just back from Traigh Mhor [Big Beach] and llate afternoon sun.
