Friedlander in Landskrona, Sweden

A heads up for our Nordic members. The Lee Friedlander exhibition assembled by the Hasselblad Foundation when they gave him the Hasselblad Award last year is on tour. If, like me, you kicked yourself at not being able to get to Göteborg while it was on, it's well worth checking out at one of the stops on its Nordic perigrination:

Its at Landskrona until the 5th November. Travel is simple: fall off the E6 and follow the signs to the centre and then the museum. Half an hour's drive from Malmö or the Swedish side of the bridge if you're coming from Denmark. Free parking, free entry and they are giving away posters from the show. Nice cafe too.

The really good thing - for me at least - was that the show includes a lot of his more recent work. Only two of the Stems series, but a wall each of the Sticks and Stones and the Apples and Olives. Lovely stuff, even if it left me feeling like a classically-trained musician who knows in his heart he will never play Jazz with any real swing.

I seem to have been fooled by the Hasselblad Center's website. If you follow the link I gave above it won't take you directly there. Just click on "Vandringsutställningar" and then Lee Friedlander's name. For some reason, it's not listed in the English Language version of the site.

There was one other downside to the exhibition: my want list on Amazon is once again receeding to the horizon at greater than lightspeed.

Struan, I will be travelling to Stockholm this coming Xmas, do you know whether the exhibition might move there after Landskrona?

I'm afraid it was there at the beginning of the year, at Fotografins Hus.

There is bound to be something worth seeing on show at that time, as well as all the Christmas fa-de-la. There isn't a good online listing of photography shows, although if you can read a bit of Swedish www.fotosidan.se are as complete as anything.

The mainstream photo magazine, "Foto" usually has pretty comprehensive Stockholm listings, but they miss all sorts of stuff elsewhere in the country. Their website is a useless mess, but if you pick up a copy when you arrive it'll make a nice souvenier. Much better than Pop Photo, but still aimed at enthusiast/club members.

Feel free to buzz me nearer the time, but I'm in Lund in the south so I won't know about everything. I posted this precisely because the Landskrona exhibit seemed to have stealth publicity: our regional paper had an article, but it's listed nowhere else. Still, it meant I had it to myself

FYI, a Friedlander exhibit opens in Paris next Monday, at the Jeu de Paume next to the Place de la Concorde.
