I have a Silvestri (probably Horseman) 6x12 groundglass back that currently has a plain glass in it. Its clips don't look like the one in the later version that takes a fresnel - and on that version, the fresnel sits in front of the GG.
I would like to get a brighter screen for this; it's more for composition and checking vignetting than critical focus (the camera has a helicoid, so focus is easy). Is there something out there that is brighter than plain glass but is not so easy to damage as a Maxwell? I imagine if pretty much any fresnel were mounted to the rear of the GG, it would not be a problem. But in front, I would be worried about changing the register (and invalidating the focus markings on the helicoid). If this were a view camera or a Speed Graphic, you could just recalibrate the infinity stops and RF.
Ideas? Any good integrated screens that won't change the focus?
Thanks,
Dante
