Film is not meat. You can put it in the freezer and when you have to deice the freezer you take it out for the day and then put it back in. That's it. You loose a day's freezing if that makes any difference at all (nope). So that's about it. I stopped freezing my film nowadays, as I now only keep <6 months worth of film. I used to buy film for the year and freeze over the summer in the past (and leave in the shed in winter) but not sure it made any difference. So unless you have tons of film you won't use for years (or it is film that is expired and has been sitting around for a while) I would use the freezer for...food!
The important thing is, if you put it in the freezer make sure you have it sealed either in the original pack or a ziploc. Otherwise when it defrosts it will get all lovely wet and foggy inside.
