Sorry, I just couldn't help myself - it's still true though, all you need to do is go and get it even if it's kind of far off.

So to add a real subject to the post: did any of you ever, like me - truly consider getting a blad just to know you had a moon camera?
Now I'm considering it for mechanical quality and 6x6 even though 645 Pro TL is good enough to last me years of photography, think I'll run at least 500 films through it before I even consider anything new.

I sure didn't find the Apollo 11 program as exciting before I started liking photography, it's kind of like classical music, it's far easier to appreciate when you're active with it and have some manner of experience to relate to it.

i always wanted one until after i got one and then found it just didn't fit my style or way of thinking. Just don't like square formats. Must have shoot three rolls of film, and put it away back in the box until years later i sold it at a profit (those days are gone) LOL

i have several orignal NASA prints from that moon landing. THey are color prints and are now losing what color is seen; i.e. the american flag, and show degrading of the print, but they are still cool .

No, but I did get a Minolta Hi-Matic to have what John Glenn carried.

I well remember those Hasselblad ads offering a free camera - if you would go and pick it up yourself... Must have been back in the late seventies they were running them, I think.

I'm surprised by that. I always thought that was a kind of joke just among those photographically inclined people who got some knowledge of space photography or were interested in rare cameras.

Well...
Even though it was a real promise made by a real company to real people, it still would be a joke, wouldn't it?

this isn't as hard as it sounds... you just gotta figure out where they stashed all the old backdrops, lights, props, rocks, etc... oh, wait...

Talk about raising blood pressure. Hush your mouth with thread titles like that!

I shipped mine off to B&H for trade. The last scan was in Bethapage New York on the 31st. There have been no other scans since that date. The truth is some postal worker proably enjoying it some where. I've lost hope. Insurance just does'nt kick in that fast either. Because they have to allow 90 days for them to inspect the dead letter dept.

It is good to know that I am not the only person who thinks like that.

Cheers, Doug in Colorado

It won't be long before private companies put a lander on the moon. What would an Apollo 11 Hassy go for? I'd guess several million, easy.
Retrieving and selling the cameras and other hardware left on the surface would go a ways (OK, a SMALL ways) toward financing such an operation.

To me, the right thing would be to inherit a Hasselblad, rather than to actually buy it... I don't know, it's almost like buying a bunch of flowers to yourself. Problem is that the actual Hassy my father used to take pictures of me as a kid back in 70's was the one he was borrowing from work. Scientific institute where he worked is closed now, who knows, maybe it's still stashed somewhere on a pile of DEC PDP 8 spare parts. If I ever buy the thing, it would be a present for my 6 month old daughter, and I'll just stick to my reliable Nikon F3 (which I actually know how to use:smile:

I thought that someone else probably beat me to it with that joke, but didn't think they actually made an official ad with it. Then again, Hasselblad has been using the moon camera ad for decades and still are, and rightly so!
