It is not free !!! Pictures show something different ,a bunch of films , and yet he sends only one ,!! When shipped as commercial plus pricing , he is still making money .
And can't even use the f.....g film .
 
Well that's a heck of Hello, and a wanting to be welcomed.
Take it your having a bad day... see if ya can chill, and explain what you believe the problem to be.
Others have gotten these films, one comment stated it was (Tri-X spooled in a Gold 200 cassette, with a Tri-X label attached)
Also as a reference it was stated : NOTE: Tri-X and FP4 will ship in a random cassette, it will NOT be labeled correctly and the DX codes will probably be invalid! Also, our bulk loader isn't all that accurate, might only get 22 exposures or maybe you'll get 26, no guarantees.

So bottom line, as stated it is imperfect expired film, free, with the cost of shipping. AKA ..the making of an adventure..
 
Unlike Peter I find it impossible to make anything of this post. Peter seems to know exactly where the source is and what that source says but if you want any kind of meaningful participation by Photrio you need to say a lot more about the target of your ire

If you read the page where you place your order, he very clearly states that 1) you ONLY GET ONE roll of free film per order and 2) the free film is shipped for free with any other order.
So, like peter k. says (in post #2 above) , try to to chill a bit...maybe work on your reading skills.

You may be right but let's give the complainant the benefit of the doubt.

So stateless01, I have now been given the source of the information to which you refer and what was said by that source. Can you say exactly what happened in your case that was in direct contradiction of the information given in that classified announcement

Does the film replicate itself? I could use self replicating film? If so I would like 120 and 4"x5" self replicating film.
 
I could be wrong, but DSLR’s quit using film around 2000.
 
I got my roll a few days ago. Seems fine to me even though it is clearly hand loaded from a bulk roll. I haven't shot it yet but will eventually get around to it. From my initial inspection I see no reason why it can't be used.
 
There are many ways to take out the tongue (the tip) of the fugitive film, and you can transfer the entire film to another cartridge. It is rather simple and you can overcome that dilemma and take advantage of this roller.
 
Take it to your local lab and they can remove it with their automatic "tongue puller". We used to do it often for people who needed this done - a quick 5-second job and certainly nothing to get upset about. While commercially rolled film usually doesn't show this affliction, we did have a couple of rolls that had inadvertently rolled back and simply removed as described above.

Otherwise, do as Mohmad suggested and load into another reusable cartridge - all is not lost, just need to find the right solution and the issue will be easily fixed.
 
I ordered a roll of E6 which arrived safely and looks fine, at least from the outside.
The OP's photograph obviously shoes no film protruding from the cassette. The appropriate response would be to contact the seller and ask for a new roll to be sent. If the cassette arrived as pictured, it is obviously defective. To expect the OP to buy a film retriever, reload into another cassette, or find a local lab that could retrieve the film is not particularly useful.

On the other hand, the original post was not really appropriate. Since it doesn't reference the seller of the film, it provides most board members with no useful point of reference. I personally think it most appropriate to contact the seller to address the issue prior to a post with a very large image and an emotion text.

With that and the pandemic, the digital film industry has been very hard hit. I hope they are part of the bail-out program.

Edited to add: But let's not also not forget the plight of digital tripod manufacturers as well.

Damn. It took me a bit but I figured out the ad the OP was referring to.The "seller" was really clear about the offer, and about shipping ($3.25) which seems reasonable. I mean he is giving the film away, are you expecting him to pay to put it in your mailbox too? By all means contact the guy, maybe he will ship out another roll. All this vitriol for $3.25?

However since he didn't specify where the film came from I guess it was just a frustrated soul blowing off some steam.
 

The word defective I feel is not completely appropriate in the context of this offer from the person with the stock in question. I agree that the cassette he shows us does not have any leader protruding and there seems nowhere in the details that indicate that any of the films have no film protruding but that would appear to be his only valid point and it is one that can be remedied by doing a search or asking here about retrieving the film. I don't know Louisville but is there no camera shop/lab there?

He has had a chance to calm down now and tell us what else he found to be misleading in the offer by omission or commission. He has not taken that opportunity.

What further puzzles me is that his post that started this thread was yesterday (Friday) and yet on the thread from the classified he complains of only receiving one film last Monday, some 5 days before his opening post here. It suggests that he had 5 days to think about matters before his second post so his above post is hardly the heat of the moment

Just one further question: How did the price of postage surprise him? Did he not have to pay for the film in advance of it being sent?

Maybe I'm missing something, but since the cassette has been reloaded, the end caps must be removable (not permanently crimped on as on later cassettes) so I'd probably just go into a dark closet or other space with a church key (beer bottle opener) pop off one of the end caps, slip the end of the spooled film out, guide the end back through the felt light traps, and press the end cap back on. 5 minutes max.
 
This 'somewhat' curious mind asks
"Will this 'low cost to the consumer' film load 'easily and readily' into my 4x5 and 8x10 inch film holders?"

Personally, I don't mind paying three bucks and small change to get a roll of film, and don't care that it's in a cassette from another film type. My 1973 Kiev 4M doesn't read DX anyway (and if it did, it'd be in GOST speed).

That said, I don't think these were "reusable" cassettes, I strongly suspect that the original film was cut from these (as minilab operators usually do, because their machines pull the film directly from the cassette) and the free film was taped to the cut end, rather than to the spool inside, before loading into the cassette. I'll be done with my roll of free Tri-X soon (shooting at EI 250 due to age), and then will dunk it in Df96 monobath and post results to the original Free Film thread, as well as to Stearman Press's gallery. I expect it to be good; the previous (first for me) roll through the Kiev has done rather well and in my opinion, there's no such thing as bad Tri-X.
