Free Agfa Repromaster Camera

We have a beautiful reprographic camera, that until very recently was being used daily.

It is an Agfa Repromaster 2000 graphic arts camera, which can be used with film slightly bigger than A3.

Located in Melbourne.

I have a tray back ute so within reason if you have a need for this but no way of moving it, we can be of assistance.

Forgot to mention, takes a standard 10A power point.

Here's a similar one in the Museum of Forgotten Art Supplies (I could fill one of those museums up just by myself). A lot of people used these, judging by all the comments on the article. I'd love to have it, but you're a long, wet drive from Arizona.

Thankfully you are, as a matter of practicality, only addressing this to Australian members, so it should not be necessary to provide a translation of "tray back ute".
It may be that this belongs in the Classifieds: Free Stuff sub-forum. Please advise if you want it moved.
In any event, good luck finding a home for it.

Matt, I did consider overseas members by making the trayback two words, instead of the regular single word we normally use.

This is the ute in 2018 with our slide-on camper on the trayback. We broke a chassis rail in 2019 and now we have the camper permanently on the back of a truck with a trayback. The ute is now my runabout for all kinds of odd jobs and fantastic for picking up fallen trees for woodturning.

As for moving the thread, to be honest I don't think it will make much of a difference, if any. There are few people who would like this, even fewer who could use this. The camera belongs to one of my brothers and if it doesn't get taken by someone, I will remove the lens and we'll take it to the scrap metal merchant after removing the glass and lights.

But if you think it may be better to move it, do so.

Hehe Mick. One use I could think of is making enlarged negatives for alt printing, but the cost of print film is prohibitive, and I have nowhere to put it. I already use half our four bedroom house with study,. darkroom and workshop. I think I'll have to stick with making digital negatives, although I find the process difficult. I do hope someone takes it up; these things, though now from a past age, are just too good for the tip.

I worked in pre press for almost 50yrs and frequently used cameras like this one. Unfortunately it’s a bit to far come from the UK.

Man, we purchased one of those used back in the 1980s, to make comic books originals, of all things. We actually had it moved from Massachusetts to California in 1993 (company paid for relocation), and finally junked it in 2002 when we realized it's just taking up space.

All before I got into LF photography. Now I wonder if it can be used as an enlarger, heh

I was given one just like this that still looked brand new. Kept it for years but it did not make the last move, at least not all together. Kept lenses and lens rack, bellows, vac. boards, focusing rods, light holders, and whatever else I could salvage. Thought it would make a great Ultra Large Format Camera. Also for use with silkscreen printing. Still trying to make the space for the project.

I almost got one of these about 10 years ago. A rare surge of common sense prevented me from attempting to get it. (It was located in the basement level of a small office building with no elevator.)

@Mick Fagan -- did anyone ever take it or did you have to scrap it?

I'm sure the majority of these went to the dump.

Don, the camera is still sitting exactly where it was when I took that phone picture. I spoke to my brother a few minutes ago, the camera is his, he is now considering scrapping it, I will get the lenses and possibly the shutter; one never knows what one could fabricate with those two items.

I had a similar dilemma many years ago (mid 90's), when the one we used for the uni newspaper (very similar model - I think a 2400) was unceremoniously replaced with desktop flatbed scanners. I used to love that thing and hot-wax pasting them onto layout paper (like I used to enjoy hopping on the tram with a Syquest cartridge to take our colour work to a 'bureau' to generate CMYK separations). All I ended up keeping were the excellent flat field lenses and the vacuum pump...

I have a pile of repro lenses. I have yet to find a use for them.

Marc, I hadn't thought about the vacuum pump. I'm not sure if this model has a vacuum bed, but if it does, maybe I could make a vacuum easel for the darkroom, my DeVere enlarger could handle the weight.

Maybe I'll give my brother a nudge and suggest that maybe now is the right time to pull it apart.

Don, I think there are only two boxes of film, the rest is bromide paper. But two boxes of film is good for cutting up and using in my 4x5" cameras.

They are pretty good, but the camper has been transferred to a larger vehicle with a trayback fitted, it's pretty unstoppable now.

Mick, Mine had two new lenses and a turret for them but no shutter that I'm aware of, other than the timer device to turn on and off the lights which was 220 amp. So not that useable here since there's no room next to the clothes dryer. I had planned to just use studio strobes for the shutter, and to not go backpacking with the home made camera creation very often.

Flashcam, I had an old Bergholz (spelling) A3 vertical reprographic camera for my business, it had a shutter as most of those did, which was above the lens turret, you couldn't see it unless you started pulling things apart. Eventually my shutter went off the rails and remained open (thankfully), so I just timed all my exposures with with a stop watch and turned the lights on and off manually. Did that for probably a few years before we went electronic.
