frame position calibration

The Diaspeed XYZ slide mounts and a discussíon around the usefullness of the respective mounts for lateral shift of frame position made me wonder

how the frame position in relation to the perforation is set at 35mm cameras.

Is there a imposed positioning due to machining of the transport mechanism?
Or is there a calibration feature?

Interesting - I don't know. Some cameras miss the mark quite often like my Retina I.

But I'm most pleased when the frame line falls exactly between two sprockets, so when you cut there are not two forks sticking out.

I imagine a standard specifies that.

Yes, the frame has to be positioned symmetrically between the outer perforations.
(What in practice means that the perforations have to be symmetrically positioned around the frame within the camera.)

I do not know about the standardized tolerances.

I believe it's determined by the gearing in the transport itself and not adjustable.

Contax II start large at frame 1 and finish tight at frame 36 even when in reasonable adjustment (ditto Kievs).

Leicas are normally uniform.

Uniformity: I did not even think of variation. I only thought of a consistent deviation from the standardized position.
