Frame count method on Kodak No. 3 folder, 120 to118 roll?

I am toying with the idea of buying a Kodak No.3 folder from an antique shop - the horror! (a model M, a late one?)

Film was originally 118 size, so I plan on adapting 120.
Film gate is 3 1/4 by 4 1/4 inches.

What would be a good method to establish the film advance turn count?
Only thing I am thinking about is:
- use a spare backing paper, mark my frames ahead of time and spool that on empty 120.
- remove camera back, start rolling paper from 120 onto the original 118 spool
- count my advance knob turns as frames appear in the right position
.. and then apply a mystery corrective factor "x" to account for film thickness that was not present above!

Any other possible scheme?

There is an adapter for using 120 film in cameras that originally took 118 film (here: https://www.camerhack.it/product/fak-118-120-to-118-film-adapter-kit/), and on the site it shows tips on how many turns for each photo (under "Film winding & frame numbering"), if anything that would be a good starting point to try & make minor adjustments to it

I am comfortable with my DIY adapting method with 116 and 616, so I can skip the commercial "printed" adapter and adjust for 118.

Only concern is frame count, so I can take keep an eye on the recommended figure (initial 16 half turns, then 5 half turns each) while attempting my proposed method and see if between the two, I get a reasonable match.

Your proposed methodology is sound and works. Make sure you have a consistent start point. I didn’t worry about space between frames as long as the first two don’t overlap. Using a consistent number of turns between frames reduces potential error. I’d rather reduce potential error than maximized a few millimeters of film.

Duh.. I cannot believe a related question to mine (120 length, count) was up this Wednesday and I did not notice!

Other: the shop where the No.3 is also has an Autographic and both have smooth shutters and clean lenses!
