Alex, I couldn't find anything about Rodinal at 1 +75 in the thread to which Tom Williams refers but can I ask what do you think will be different at 1+75 compared to the tested 1+50?

I fail to see how price can be of any consideration with developers. we are talking pennies per roll! Ralph, it might be a consideration when comparing 2 developers that are, allegedly, similar enough to produce identical negatives unless one of the two had another or other benefits such as...

pentaxuser, I've settled on FP4+ for landscape in medium format, and I like what I see so far from FX-2 developer (stand development). I was going through The Film Development Cookbook looking for info on compensation, and ran into this :

"The most frequent problem encountered in landscape photography is how to record a greater than normal subject range on film. Our recommended developers for landscape are PMK, FX 2, Rodinal 1:75 or 1:100, or most two-bath developers."

As I said, I like the results so far with FX-2, although I did run into a few problems. I'm curious to see how Rodinal at 1:75 would fare in comparison.

@aparat : in the post I quoted above, there doesn't seem to be much of a shoulder in the graph. I was surprised, as I though Rodinal at 1:100 would have a compensating effect, compressing somewhat the contrast of the highlights. Am I reading this wrong?

Rodinal 1:100 or 1:200 is recommended by some for pictorial photography with x-ray film. I guess it's the same principle; holding back the highlights and bringing down contrast with a high dilution.

Yes, you are reading it correctly. I was surprised by it, too. I did another test a few weeks ago, trying to see if the Adox Rodinal produces similar results to the Rollei R09 One Shot, and, at least in 1:100 semi-stand, they are very similar, but neither is showing significant compensating effect. I am not denying that such an effect is possible. Its just that it's not very pronounced in these examples.
