While I was wondering the outskirts of Oaxaca this morning, and I came across a photo store with some cameras. To my surprise, tucked away in a corner, was a brand spanking new Nikon F3 HP with 50mm lens. Box, manual and strap were included.

The shop owner, obviously sensing I was a gringo (long curly blonde hair and blue eyes) gave me a price of 18,000 pesos, or about $1800 US.

Needless to say I did not buy it. I only had 17,000 pesos in my wallet

Hi David, console yourself with the fact that the F3 wasn't the most reliable model that Nikon ever made, I used to sell them for a living, and about 30 percent of the new ones we sold came back under the warranty which you don't expect from a pro quality S.L.R. I have owned in the past a Nikon F Photomic and a F2 Photomic and these were very rugged, you could" knock nails in with them, and they would still take pictures", but he wants a hell of a lot of money for this, as you say. If you still would like to buy it make him an offer he can't refuse.

Agree with Bentley. I bought one of those early F3's and it never worked properly the whole time I had it.
