Forte Polywarmtone, how to get warm tones indtead of green cast???

I have tried to get warm toned prints from Forte Polywarmtonepaper with various warmtone developers but a seem to get a green cast on them. Putting them through selenium gives me a brown green split or a reddish brown if I leave it in selenium longer. Is there a developer which give dark chocolate brown tones with this paper??

Try a very very dilute selenium toner bath. I use 1 oz se in 80 oz of perma wash working solution for 5 min. It will remove the green cast and help with the shadows.

Have you tried Agfa Neutol WA? Gave me very rich brown tones - the warmest I've seen without toning.

I've used Edwal Platinum II with very little green cast. BTW, one box had no green cast, another had a slight green cast. Not sure if my development temps caused the slight shift, or perhaps differences in different batches of emulsion?? Anyway, I then tone in very dilute selenium for a good warm tone. Agfa Neutol is also a good choice for your developer.

I am using Dektol 1:2 and find that the green is not a problem. I do use selenium 1:20, but even if I don't the green dries down to a nice warm brown/black.

I also have had good luck with Edwal Platinum II, my preferred developer. Dektol left a green cast but the less green upon drying, Se romves it completley.

I use neutol WA, I have one old bottle that has become quite brown and a new clear bottle. I mix 1:15 of new and 1:15 of old and get really rich brown tones - much warmer than just 1:15 of new.

You could make some tests varying the temperature of the developer, the development time and dilution of the soup. Might change something (although I have no big experience with Forte PW).

I bought Polywarmtone Plus from Photax, and they recommend Forte's warm tone developer, Fortespeed WTD, to get prints with a warm brown tone.
Is Forte's WTD one of them you have tried already?

I agree with using a warm dev as in my experience the colder devs produce more green cast if not verging on blue-green for the very cold ones. V V dilte selenium works a treat and will reduce the tendency to split tone. Goes nuts in selenium toner if too strong.

Best advice to eliminate the green tone- don't use Dektol. For a nice warmtone, try the new Ilford Warmtone developer. Also look at Ansco 130, if you don't mind mixing your own. The Ansco 130 is a more neutral look, but still very nice.

The Forte is a little inconsistent as far as the green cast goes. Some batches are worse than others. I have found that Ansco 135 and Ansco 130 work best for neutralizing the green in PWT. However, you would have to mix your own. You could also use any developer you want if you are willing to tone in Nelsons Gold toner. I have found this to be the best toner for PWT and Forezo. It produces rich brown/black to brown tones, while deepening the dark tones and keeping the whites clean. I think it renders much more pleasing colors than selenium.
Of course, Nelsons is a bit of a pain to use. It needs to be hot, and there is always a precipitation of the solution to deal with. But if you can put up with that, its really a good fit for the Forte.
